Things to Do in Sorrento

Tasso Square
As Tasso’s main square, this lively piazza is the perfect place for a restaurant rendezvous or souvenir shopping. During the day the square is a hive of tireless activity so wait until the evening if you want a more peaceful stroll. Hop aboard the Sorrento city train here for a 30-minute tour.
Marina Grande
Nestled within the multi-coloured Amalfi Coast, this picturesque port is one of Italy’s unspoiled gems. Handmade wooden fishing boats are peppered along the stretch of sandy beach, while local seafood restaurants offer their catch of the day. Shops and rustic houses lean against the curved rocks, and the simple décor and straightforward way of life give the area a nostalgic vibe.
Valley of the Mills
The ghostly abandoned remains of these sunken wheat mills are buried behind Piazza Tasso. This portal into the past was once part of Sorrento’s pasta production industry. The valley itself is inaccessible but the best views are from on top, as you gaze down onto the spooky structure entombed by ferns and rare plants.

Exceptional
We went on a horse drawn carriage ride that you pick up in Piazza Tasso. €50 - very enjoyable. An evening visit to Positano, for a beautiful meal by the sea. There is a bus that leaves from Marina Grande and takes you to Piazza Tasso, cost just £1. We got the bus up, and walked back down.

Recommend the cruise around Capri and the tour of the Island. Our guide was brilliant. Seafood restaurant down by the harbour. Explore the old town. Walked everywhere.

Very Good
Exotic, wonderful climate and views but touristy, crowded and English. Buses and trains are packed but relatively easy to use. We are happy we chose to arrive by boat from Naples.

Sorrento very small we were there one full day, and one evening which was plenty to see the old town, good base to get across to Capri or other destinations such as Pompeii or down the amalfi coast! Easy to get around on public transport

Very Good
Sorrento is a great base for the coast - ignore the over-priced tours and use local, cheap public transport to get to Positano, Pompeii and Herculaneum. Lots of places to eat and drink

Recommended in Sorrento

Shop early in the morning or later at night if you do not want to be standing a long time waiting to be served. All shop owners are very courteous but they only service one person at a time and make you feel special when they do.

A walk down to the Grand Marina ended up with a large plate of mussels that you know were harvested that morning. It was nice having fresh seafood on a sidewalk café near the fishing boats pulled up on the beach.
