Things to Do in Nairobi

Maasai Mara National Reserve
On a safari through the Maasai Mara National Reserve, your dedicated guide will help you spot its famed populations of Maasai lion, African leopard and Tanzanian cheetah – pausing for photos as you go. Pick up a multi-day trip and you’ll spend the night soaking it up, sleeping under canvas at the reserve’s camping ground.
Amboseli National Park
The open plains of Amboseli National Park draw water from the streams of looming Mount Kilimanjaro. This diverse combination of dry grass and swampy wetland habitat lures lions, elephants, giraffes and more animals besides. Small enough to be explored in just a day or two, it makes for a very fulfilling short safari, or fits nicely into a busier itinerary.
Lake Nakuru National Park
With 450 bird and 56 mammal species to be found here, Lake Nakuru makes it onto many a Nairobi safari itinerary. White rhinos and waterbuck, hungry pelican and a never-ending blanket of pink flamingoes all share the waters, while lions and leopards prowl the surrounding terrain. You may also spot a population of Rothschild’s giraffe, brought here for conservation in the 1970s.

Traveler's Reviews & Photos

Security is a premium there, understand that airport style security screening is the norm to enter any mall, public service, or financial establishment. Go on eCitizen and get an eVisa, it will help the process tremendously.

If you can, stay away from the central business district. Nairobi traffic is some of the worst and there is rarely a time you will not be stuck in it. If staying just one or two nights stay on the Airport side of town, there are high end, mid range and low end options all without hitting the main city. The Nairobi national park is also on this side of town for a mini safari experience.
