Playa del carmen is nice mix of cultures, art and food. Also good central location to most points of interest like Talum, coba, cozumel and Alot of the parks.

Exceptional
We prefer Playa del Carmen over Cancún as we are not big on all inclusive resorts. It’s easy to do day trips to places like Tulum, Cozumel and the Xcaret parks like Xel-Ha and Xplor.

Very Good
Playa is an over run tourist trap, but the people are very nice. There are a million day tours to do from it, which is what I did every day. Closer to the Cenotes and ruins than Cancun, so less time spent riding in vans. An excellent place for home base

Recommended in Playa del Carmen

There's a good selection of restaurants which are mostly comprised of Mexican, Italian and Seafood. There are lots of other options as well, and at different price points, so there seems to be something for everyone. I love that a lot of the restaurants are on 5th avenue, which makes for great people watching.

All the shops are concentrated on the long pedestrian street of 5th avenue, which makes it very pleasant to stroll and check things out.

nice many blocks walking mall with a variety of restaurants and shops / prices however designed for the higher US dollar

Walking through 5th avenue, drink and listen to music next to the beach, great massage

Nightlife starts late, so take a nap after spending a day at the beach.

El Oasis Mariscos (Playa del Carmen) - 50 Avenida Sur / Calle 12 Nte

The Mexican people are so friendly, funny and helpful

Xcaret and ancient mayan ruins
