Things to do in Valkenburg

Caves of Valkenburg
If you thought Christmas markets have a special atmosphere, just wait until you get into the Caves of Valkenburg. Inside the caves, the honey-coloured rock is lit up by the glow of fairy lights, and seasonal scenes can be glimpsed in little enclaves as you wander through. Magical.
Castle ruins of Valkenburg
To get you in the old-time mood at Valkenburg’s Christmas market, why not stop off at the castle ruins first? These old walls are included in the entry fee for the market, so not only do you get an atmospheric, underground Christmas experience, but you can also wander round a top national landmark at the same time.

Exceptional
Nice town with good opportunities to eat, drink and do sightseeing. There are several caves to enjoy among which a coal mine (mimic), the Fluwelengrotten (with old paintings on the marl wall) and Mergelrijk (sculptures from marl). Also, the town is less than 30m away from Maastricht.

There's plenty to see and do in Valkenburg. It's a lovely little town and very pleasant for walking around. There are many cafes and restaurants, a lot of choice for picky eaters. We love the cable car and the rodelbaan Agogo. Great view over the town from there.

Recommendations for Valkenburg

Valkenburg is a must if you want to get in to the festive spirit. We have never visited anywhere else that makes such an effort in to the way that the whole town is decorated. The markets in the caves are the icing on the cake and not to be missed for festive atmosphere, decorations and variety of stalls. Valkenburg's title of "Christmas Town" is richly deserved and we will go back for the third time next December.

The biggest Spa in the Netherlands is situated in Valkenburg. It's best to go in the evening when all day people are gone and you have the whole complex to enjoy with a few people

by wandering around town and tasting them all. Valkenburg has nice cafe's close to each other, so more then enough choice

all of the Christmas markets and venues are all so close by and easily accessed

Market in the caves.Chair lift to tower/restaurant.

sitting in a café after going round the caves

very welcoming.
