Things to Do in Fatima

Sanctuary of Fátima
The Miracle of Fátima – an apparition of the Virgin Mary to three local children – has long generated interest in this site, which now serves as a pilgrimage destination. The Neo-Baroque basilica towers over an esplanade, which fills with visitors for a torchlight procession on the pilgrimage's eve.
Chapel of Apparitions
A popular pilgrimage spot, this little chapel marks where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in 1917. The open-air site was destroyed in 1922 and while the original oak tree – where the apparition took place – has long since fallen, the new chapel sees more than 5 million pilgrims pass through its doors each year.
Almourol Castle
Plonked in the middle of the River Tagus, this dreamy castle appears unchanged from its 12th-century beginnings. Built on Roman foundations, its fortified walls guard tales of myth and legend – and are said to harbour the ghost of a lovesick princess. Regular ferries leave from Constância and Tancos to the island.

Traveler's Reviews & Photos

I came for the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. It exceeded all my expectations! So beautiful and the candlelight procession every evening was well worth going to no matter what your religious beliefs may be! The people I met were so nice and helpful. I loved Fatima and will return soon. 😊

Fatima is a beautiful and peaceful place. The candlelight procession was very beautiful! Visiting the different shrines and the village where the children lived in a great experience.

This is a nice hotel in a great place. We couldn't ask for more. The staff is great and Americo (the bartender) was so kind all the time. We looking to go back sooner. I hardly recommend this place.

Very Good
Very important for peace & tranquility arising from the Apparitions. Parve block pavements can be difficult for less mobile & wheelchair users.
