Things to do in Niš

Nis Fortress
Located on the banks of the Nišava river, Nis Fortress is one of the best preserved medieval fortifications in the central Balkans. With a history dating back over two millennia, the fortress assumed its final shape under Turkish rule in the 18th century. Wander through Byzantine streets, explore the ancient Bali-Bey Mosque or simply relax at one of the many cafés within the complex.
Kazandžijsko Sokace District
Kazandžijsko Sokace is the only remaining part of the city's old commercial centre. Located on Kopitareva street, the area became prominent during the 18th century and was home to many tinsmiths. Although the smithies have long since closed, the historic ambience has been preserved, and the street now includes numerous restaurants and cafés.
Skull Tower
A solemn reminder of Serbia's turbulent past, Skull Tower dates back to the days of Ottoman rule. Built to deter further rebellion during the First Serbian Uprising in 1809, the tower originally comprised the skulls of 1,000 rebels. Today, 58 of them still form part of the structure, and the tower remains a powerful symbol of Serbian independence.

Traveller's reviews and photos

Although my stay in Nis was only for one night it was an unforgetable experience. Nis is way more beautiful and graphical than Belgrade...I.strongly reccomend it as a destination to spend a couple of nights onto.

Niš seems like a nice town with many bars and restaurants. We only stayed for one night, so we did not have the time to see all places of interest.
