Singapore Botanical Gardens
Verdant landscaped gardens, trickling waterfalls and a clam-shaped stage … is this a dream? Wake up and come to your senses inside this 183-acre botanical garden. Tip-toe through the Japanese Forest, take a healing garden tour, or simply laze on the banks of the stage and listen to jazz. All parts of the park except the National Orchid Garden are free entry.

Sands SkyPark
Ding! Welcome to Level 57 of the Marina Bay Sands hotel. It’s a different world up here, where big-spending guests lazily bask by the infinity pool, cocktail in hand. Mere mortals have to be content with gazing out from the observation deck. That’s no bad thing, though – the panoramas sweep across the city, and skyscrapers look like elaborate sandcastles beneath your feet.

National Museum of Singapore
Are you a fan of visual arts – yes/no? This may not be a real questionnaire, but this museum – filled with photography, fashion, travelling exhibitions and even a cinema – answers every question you ever had about Singaporean art new and old. Walk through the glorious Glass Passage, plan an evening at an avant-garde art film screening or gaze up at the glorious rotunda.

Singapore Zoo
Channel your inner Doctor Dolittle and walk and talk with the animals. Each year, some 1.6 million visitors parade through the carefully crafted environments designed to resemble natural habitats. Go ape on the Wild Discoveries tour, meet your polar opposite at the Frozen Tundra exhibit, pander to the pandas … just don’t throw a dog a bone: feeding the animals is prohibited!

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay
Introducing the humble ‘durian’ fruit – a bit spiky and smelly, but quite delicious. It was Singaporean’s love for this humble fruit that provided the architectural inspiration for this ginormous performing art centre. It’s the best place in town to be surrounded by Shakespeare, listen to the strum of exotic instruments or take in a range of melodies on a moonlit night.
