The hotel owner was very helpful with the hiking trails I was going to take the next day and bus schedules. Also, the room had a nice view of the river and was very close to the Kawayu onsen. At night you could hear the frogs croaking, which was very relaxing and helped you sleep.

Amazing onsen facilities which include an outdoor riverside onsen overlooking a dense forest. The room (we stayed at the Japanese style room) was very specious and comfortable. Definitely an ideal location for nature appreciation and recharging the soul.

Super nice place, extremely clean and beautifully done. The private onsens are amazing and are a huge plus. Great location to explore Yunomine Onsen and to trek the Kumano Kodo. Free rice in the evening and rice porridge in the morning (cooked with onsen water I think) as well as a great huge kitchen to cook in. We ended up having dinner in a local restaurant because we were too lazy to cook. There is a convenience store close by to buy the eggs and sweet potatoes you can boil in the Onsen water. The staff was extremely nice. Good atmosphere among other guests as well.

Spectacular service, very clean, excellent Japanese meals with full explanations for foreign guests, very quiet traditional rooms with modern public areas, traditional Onsen (our room had its own toilet but bathing is public in separate male and female baths (this might seem like a big deal to some but we embraced it as rare opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan. Stayed here 2 nights to complete the Hongu loop of the Kumano Kodo in one day (traveling to and from the property is possible using reliable and inexpensive public transportation; it will take a day to get there from Tokyo and another day to return). The staff speak excellent English and I can’t say enough about their professionalism and care for their guest’s comfort.
