A 5-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station, Tawaraya offers Japanese-style accommodations with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV. The service and hospitality were really welcoming and impressive. The staffs make sure that we are having a great time. The outdoor onsen was really good especially with the snow. This ryokan is definitely one of the very best in the area and good value for money. It's so worth it to stay here. We stayed in other ryokans nearby but this is our favourite.
Built during the Edo Period, Yumoto Ryokan is the oldest Japanese-style inn in the Yudanaka area. A 15-minute drive to Snow Monkey Park, it offers a hot-spring bath and free WiFi in areas. I emailed the property in the morning of the day we were to arrive, just to let them know our time of arrival and that we would then quickly go to the Snow Monkey Park. I wasn't expecting our host to meet us at the train station, get us checked in and then drive us to the Snow Monkeys! So friendly and unexpected and awesome - it really gave us so much more time. The property is quite large and certainly does not look big from the front. However, a great deal of it was seemingly unused during our visit (which was not a problem, just an observation). The rooms themselves were spacious and clean but the carpet in hallways is a bit stained and showing signs of use. That would be my only minor negative comment. Our hosts were genuinely helpful and friendly. I have arthritis and needed an extra doona or two under my futon to provide a bit more comfort but I knew what I had signed up for. My aching body was soon recovered after a session in the onsen (hot springs bath). Oh my goodness, it was fabulous. There are quite a few rules regarding the use of hot springs so I suggest you familiarise yourself with them before you go. I used both the indoor and outdoor pool. There are two baths indoors, one "low temperature" and the other I would describe as "very bloody hot". I couldn't stay in it, it was just too hot. The outdoor one was perfect and I enjoyed the beauty of the night sky all on my own. The Japanese style breakfast (you could choose Western style also) was just amazing. Beautifully prepared and whilst not at all what we are used to, was delicious. Scrambled eggs (cold), fillet of fish, pickled mushrooms and beans and loads of other tidbits/titbits (whichever you prefer) that I have no idea what they were. They also provided a tub of yoghurt and chocolate croissants, tea and coffee (although I fear the Japanese in general, have a lot to learn about coffee).
A small 6-room inn with Ryokan meals and cozy interiors, Yasuragi is just a few minutes drive to Jigokudani Monkey Park and an 8-minute walk from Yudanaka Train Station. Hot-spring baths are featured.... The host is very nice and hospitality. The dinner is also delicious. We enjoyed our stay.
Aburaya Tousen offers luxurious contemporary Japanese-style accommodations with an amazing 11 types of hot-spring baths and free WiFi. Excellent stay at Aburaya Tousen. We stayed over christmas time and could not have asked for a more perfect way to have spent this time - topped off with fresh snowfall on christmas day whilst relaxing in our private spa on the balcony. Did not realise how amazing the food would be either - this was definitely a highlight with the degustation dinners - they were never ending and delicious! Incredible smiling service and also personally greeted by the owner. Real attention to detail to make for an incredible stay. Close to the Jigokudani Monkey park too if you're in town to see them.
A 3-minute walk from Yudanaka Station, Hotel Tsubakino features indoor and outdoor hot spring baths with a vista of snowy mountain peaks. The hotel offers Japanese-style rooms with free Wi-Fi. The customer service was excellent, they were very accomodating. The location was amazing with a 5 minute walk to the station and was easy to get to Shiga Kogen and to see the snow monkeys. When we were not out and about they had so many activities to keep us busy like karaoke, table tennis, massages, amazing food and could relax every night in the onsen. I loved my stay here and will definitely be coming back!
Yudanaka Seifuso is located in the Yudanaka hot springs area, surrounded by scenic mountains. It features 3 hot spring baths and traditional Japanese-style rooms with tatami-mat (woven-straw)... Location, staff, dinner, open air onsen. My stay at Yudanaka Seifuso was pure magic. The place is a few meters south the train station. We reached the place by foot and we were welcomed by the staff asking us if we wanted to be escorted by car (for free) at the main attraction there, the Snow Monkeys Park. We accepted the ride right away because the local bus may not be convenient and because the park is 40 mins far from the hotel by foot (please look at local bus' schedule for returning to the hotel because they are not very frequent in the afternoon). Anyway, the rooms are big and have a nice old japanese style (tatami floors, sliding doors etc). It was nice to sleep and live in such a place for one night (a "kimono" is also available in the room if you wanna have fun taking pictures) The japanese style bed was very comfortable. The common use bathrooms were very very clean and never crowded. Showers are located in the three different onsen available. It's gender separated so male and women alternate in different hours. I personally tried the private bath and the outdoor one. If you don't have enough time or if the private one is always busy I highly reccomend to use the outdoor onsen. May be very very chilly but the atmosphere it's simply amazing. It's small but it's well built and illuminated. I was there right before midnight (it's open all night long for male visitors) and it was a magical experience to me. We decided to have dinner (that you need to reserve in advance) and even if was a little bit too expensive for my standards I don't regret my choice. When you check-in they will ask you to fill a paper with ingredients you may not want or are allergic to.Dinner was served in a private room and everything was delicious apart of a couple of soups that I didn't like. Dinner was pricey but well worth the money. The beef was amazing.
Boasting both indoor and outdoor hot spring baths, Kamei-no-Yu is traditional accommodations surrounded by beautiful Japanese garden and ponds. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the property. Kiyohei was so helpful. He took me and picked me up at the Snow Monkey Park as well as to Shibu Onsen to find lunch. Then he was able to drop off at the train station. The Kaiseki dinners at Yoroduya were amazing. Beautiful and filling. I strongly suggest to take advantage of the free Onsen at Yoroduya. It is fantastic.
