Samantha & Stephanie were wonderful host. Stephanie checked me in and I appreciate her help with booking an extra night with Old Manse. Samantha cooked a really good breakfast each morning. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi & apple) & plain yogurt. She also cooked great poached eggs & cereal was appreciated. One morning I had salmon & eggs and it was yummy. I failed to mention she had nuts & dried fruit to put on the yogurt…..lots of good choices. My room & bathroom were a good size and the bed very comfortable. I enjoyed my walks from the B&B to the town centre (exploring) & taking the bus to Bakewell and Haddon Hall were fun for a day. Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

The location is beautiful and very convenient for the Whitworth Institute. I loved my cozy room, the comfy bed, the lovely, clean bathroom with the fantastic shower, the thoughtful coffee and tea amenities, the witty proprietor, Alan and his courteous, talented and considerate staff, the tasteful decor and the wonderful welcome. I'm so pleased I chose the Square and Compass and I'm greatly looking forward to my next stay. Very highly recommended!

This family run guest house helped us feel at home when we most needed to feel comfortable. No one likes getting sick while on vacation, but our son managed to catch a very bad bug and needed medical attention. That's when Deborah, the host, helped us. She gave us information about British system, and was flexible about some of the breakfast issues (son wouldn't eat, etc). She's very gracious! As for the property, our room was spacious, with two sitting chairs overlooking the streets below. Our room (a triple) had a fridge ) Because we had to stay in, it turned out to be a great place to relax while my son slept (unlike some cramped rooms). If weather is nasty, I can imagine people wanted to stay in, have tea, and read. Overall, it's great to see that local, family guest houses still exist. And ones like this one, managed by Deborah, are a wonderful place to stay.

The interior design was lovely, it didn't feel like another room at the inn. Rooms are facing the main road and we could see the Peveril Castle out of the corner of the window. Teas, coffees and milk (in fridge) was adequate. Short walk to the shops.
