It was everything we hoped for and more. We got up at six to ring the bell, and it was really special. After that, Asami's husband told us that we were welcome to join the local residents in their morning exercise, and we did. It was such a nice surprise! We enjoyed the great sense of community here. Later during the temple experience, we learned a lot about the local temple culture. I would highly recommend their guesthouse to anyone interested in having an in-depth understanding of local Japanese communities.

The surrounding was quite peaceful and the food that was provided was excellent. Masako San was so kind to drive us to and from the train station and the train ride from Kyoto was convenient. It is wonderful to get some good county air and get some great sleep

Staying here was a wonderful experience and I seriously recommend it to anyone visiting Shiga!

For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. It’s a traditional Japanese cabin in the mountains. The shoji screens and the zen garden made it a really relaxing and cozy visit. One of my favorite accommodations through my journey in Japan. They have WiFi, and a modern toilet. The kitchen is a bit old and not up to modern standards but it works just fine. If you want a place away from the bustling cities, and really want to relax and also get a feel for an authentic Japanese cabin I can highly recommend it. Word of advice is to get food before you arrive as it is far from any stores, but I was informed of this before arrival so I had time to plan. The hostess was super friendly and very helpful It’s an old cabin and it shows, don’t expect a newly renovated house, but it gave it an authentic feeling. There’s also no AC, but with it being in the mountains and the shoji screens it didn’t get too hot at night. Also the insects make a lot of noise Wish I stayed more than one night
