These cute and cozy cottages are the perfect spot for a Christmas getaway. We arrived in this winter wonderland while it was still light outside and enjoyed the snow around and the atmosphere. It took us a little while to warm up the cottage and get a hang of the wood stove, but eventually we cozied up inside and had a wonderful time. The kitchen was really well equipped with a variety of appliances and utensils. We cooked a delicious comforting curry with the rice and veggies we bought from roadside stations around and a vegan curry base from Noguchi supermarket in Yuzawa, Niigata, where we stopped by on our way to the cottage. I only wish we could have stayed more than just one night, but unfortunately I was a little late making the booking, and it was already sold out.

Kagura House is situated a 4-hour drive away from Narita International Airport, and an 18-minute bus ride away from Echigo-Yuzawa Station, which provides access to the Joetsu Shinkansen railway line. Great location near ski area/ bus stop/ Very cheap ski pass and Ski rental provided by the owner. Large dining hall and huge kitchen with a lot of kitchenware available. Large traditional room using futon. Friendly owner.

At Izumigo AMBIENT Yatsugatake Cottage (Former title: Neo Oriental Resort Yatsugatake-Kogen Cottage), guests can rent out a private cottage in the woods. So actually the cottage we were in smelled like kerosene and it was making me sick so they moved us and it was incredible we had a very cute cottage. It had parking and the staff was so kind and attentive. My Japanese isn't the best but they worked with us and I appreciate the effort the staff went to make our stay comfortable. It's pretty close to the mountain biking park and there's a burger place that I dream about. It's a beautiful area and I definitely recommend
