HI - Portland Northwest Hostel

Northwest District, Portland

Mixed dormitory rooms, female-only dormitory rooms, male-only dormitory rooms, as well as individual private rooms are available here. Each room comes with linens, and a shared bathroom. The dormitory rooms offer individual lockers. We appreciated the warm welcome and efficient introduction to the facilities. We received a good deal of information on what was on the program of the hostel like the art walk the same evening which we took part in and enjoyed very much. The participants got together after it was finished and we had a nice chat to exchange stories and travel experiences. Our room in the old "villa" next door had a great atmosphere. The shared bathrooms were easy to find in the hall and very clean. The news boards in the buildings provide ample information on most everything a traveler could be interested in.

The rooms include a TV with cable channels. Certain units feature a seating area where you can relax. For your comfort, you will find free toiletries and a hair dryer. The location was good. For the second part of my stay they gave me a room all to myself which I liked; it was a bunk bed, but I was the only person there.

Hostels – what are they?

Hostels offer so much more than a cheap place to stay – they're also a fun way to travel and meet like-minded people. Common areas like shared kitchens and game rooms give you the chance to swap tips, tricks, and travel stories with backpackers from all over the world.

Hostels have come a long way since the first youth hostel opened back in 1912. Nowadays there's something for everyone, from budget "crash pads" to 5-star "poshtels." Whether you'd prefer a bed in a shared dorm or your own private room, you'll see that most hostels are cheaper than local hotels – and a lot more fun, too!
