Zzz Malang is hands down the best budget-friendly hostel in town. The dorm room was spacious and had good ventilation. The bunk beds were comfortable, and each bed had its own power socket and towel. The bathrooms were spotless and fully stocked with essentials. The hostel is in a quiet area, but a 10-minute Grab ride takes you to the train station. Lila was very welcoming and helped me book transport to Yogyakarta. Highly recommended for backpackers looking for comfort without breaking the bank!

They even offered to pack us a breakfast to go on mornings we had early starts with tours etc,.

Zen Moon is one of those places that stays in your memory long after you leave. The house itself is charming and full of character, with a small, peaceful garden with turtles and golden fishes. The room is small but simply magical. The bed, covered with a delicate mosquito net and soft batik sheets, made me feel like a princess every night. But the real highlight is the bathroom. It’s a pure zen oasis, open to the sky, surrounded by greenery, and so beautifully designed that taking a shower feels like bathing in the jungle. The location couldn’t be better, just a few steps from some of the nicest restaurants and cafés in the neighborhood. If you’re coming to Yogyakarta, don’t think twice; Zen Moon is a little paradise you’ll be grateful to have found.
