Really grand old house with beautiful garden. We could cook in the kitchen in the evening and relaxed in glorious sitting room with an open fire. The best breakfast we’ve had in Argentina - home made yogurt, cereal and marmalade! And eggs from...

The breakfast was excellent; the host spoke only Spanish but we managed to communicate via our friend who is fluent in Spanish and via Google translate. The place is very historical 240 years old. Large patio, beautiful garden, very few rooms....

We spent 21 days in Argentina and only one night here, and it by far was the most comfortable (& the only place with face tissue!) & scenic with the most attentive staff. Martin was great!

The house was built around 1780 during the Spanish Colonial period, for one of the big local landowning families. At the time Cachi was an important trading post, and it would have been a combination of " town house" and business and store room facilities. The prosperity of the owners is shown by the thick adobe walls, inmensely high ceilings, cactus wood floors, ironwork on the windows, and huge locks and keys. One has to remember that at the time all iron and manufactured goods had to be brought from Spain, and then taken hundreds of kilometers by muletrain up into the mountains. We bought it as a semi-ruin about 15 years ago, and have restored it completely, only adding comfortable bathrooms, and a large kitchen. We furnished and decorated it using local artisans : carpenters, blacksmith, weavers, stonemasons, etc. The house encloses a huge central terrace, with fabulous views of the Calchaqui river and surrounding mountains. It has a pergola, and table seating 10 people, sunloungers, and a grill for cooking legendary Argentine "asados". The terrace overlooks a large garden, with fountains, terraces, sculptures, and a colourful collection of local plants, shrubs and cacti.
We hope guests will enjoy Casa del Tejedor as much as we do.It is a home that reflects our interests and hobbies , We love travelling all over the region : one can easily reach Bolivia in the north, or San Juan in the south. We love the history, literature, music ,handicrafts and food. We have collected a large number of textiles , pottery, and paintings and sculpture by local artists. We love cooking, and there is a grill on the central terrace, and an iron wood burning stove in the kitchen ( as well as a practical gas oven!). Also a mud oven on the back patio . Martin can show how to cook on these ! In fact Martin is also one of the best weavers in the region, and is happy to demonstrate weaving and dyeing techniques. We also enjoy a good hike, and all one has to do is drive out from Cachi in almost any direction,to find onself in marvellous surroundings that are wonderful for a good walk.
The historic central area of Cachi is perfectly preserved, and commercial signs and advertising have been banned. The lovely central plaza is surrounded by the Church, Archaological Museum, Municipal buildings, a bank, some stores restaurants and cafes. On a balmy evening it is great to sit on the pavement at Cafe Oliver, and watch the local scene, while savouring an excellent pizza and iced beer. There are a number of good restaurants, such as Wiracocha, full of candle- lit atmosphere in the evenings ( on your right as you enter the town ,coming from Salta), The El Cortijo boutique hotel has an excellent menu of Andean cuisine, served up in their very sophisticated restaurant. And the Automovil Club ( A.C.A ), has a restaurant that is perfect for lunch on the terrace, with a view over Cachi and the Calchaqui Valley beyond. Finally, we would recommend the restaurant at the Merced del Alto hotel, which is about 4 kms from the centre of town. If you like fish, ask for the excellend dish of Pacu ( a native river fish) that they cook to perfection. There are many places to go for a Picnic, on incredible drives to Las Pailas, La Poma, or Mina Don Otto .One just never gets bored !
