St. Wolfgang is lovely but not pedestrian-friendly.
St. Wolfgang is lovely but not pedestrian-friendly. The town is chopped up by a highway tunnel. The road from the Garni Buchinger hotel into the town is narrow, mostly with no sidewalks and pitch dark at night. There's a lot of traffic on this road making it unsafe for pedestrians. For this reason we had no choice but to drive the short distance into town each night for dinner.

St. Wolfgang is at the bottom of Schafberg and obvius choice to stay. Village is small, very, very nice (absolutely comparable and probably even nicer than nearby and well known Hallstat). Lake view is visible from almost every house, there are a lot of hotels, really nice shops and a lot of restaurants.
Like elsewhere in Austria, note that shops close early and restaurants close at 22h (.there is a single hotel bar opened until 24h, at least that was correct at the moment of our stay).
I had problems finding gluten free products (local supermarket only) and coffee shops which serve lactose free milk (single coffee shop).
Absolutely recommend st. Wolfgang and will likely come again at some point. There is a lot to see and do here.

Nice historical village.
Nice historical village. Possibility of excursions around the lake, sailing on the lake, hiking in the surrounding mountains. Prices in restaurants are higher, as are prices in hotels. It seems to me that some of them exaggerate. (both hotels and restaurants)

the city itself is very picturesque. On the main street there is a pleasant atmosphere - cafes, shops, in general, a resort. Unlike other similar towns, there are many trekking routes, any kind of water sports on the lake, a bus connection to nearby sights and very-very beautiful everywhere.

St. Wolfgang is a lovely small town Just on the lake, with great weather and landscape with view of the lake, green mountains. It has many hotels and several cafes and restaurants, and many tourist shops.
It can be nice base for touring around.
We liked to just walk through and sit by the lake.
This hotel is fantastic!
The service was incredibly attentive, always ensuring our needs were met.
The breakfast and dinner were great - the food was very elegant and tasty.
The location is brilliant, right in the centre and on the lake. The pool had stunning views of the mountains.
We used the paddle boards at the hotel which was a lovely addition. The massage was wonderful.
The room was spacious and had a wonderful view of the lake with a balcony.
Overall a brilliant stay and would definitely recommend!
The room size was OK for two people and a bit of laguage and the view was amazing. The breakfast was very nice and one could order eggs and various coffee specialities. The staff was very nice and helped us when needed. The hotel also has a restaurent were one can enjoy a nice meal. The hotel is very close to the lake and the city is at a walkable distance. There is also a bus to the city. There is a paring place which is very practical when travelling by car.
The hotel beach is breathtakingly beautiful. Especially love the mysterious design on second floor, very stunning. Dinner in hotel restaurant is amazing, best ingredients and perfect service. Non-smoking outdoor dining is definitely a plus, finally people can enjoy the absolutely fresh air while enjoying the lake breeze, without the annoying cigarette smell. Very pleasant experience.
Clean, comfortable single room with huge balcony over typical Austrian street. Who likes the atmosphere and sounds of a waking old european town with traditional shops must love it. Very friendly personal. Super place for an active holiday, close to the ferry and for relaxation with plenty of restaurants literally a few steps from the accommodation.
its location is perfect: you get amazing views 360. if you’re into the idyllic Austrian holiday in the Alps, don’t go any further. Paulbauer is a typical beautiful Alpine farmhouse with animals. our kids couldn’t have asked for more: cows, calves, ponies, rabbits, cats, sheep were all available to play with (or observe).
Location is superb! What made the stay outstanding is that the staff was making everything so uncomplicated for us: parking super stress-free (even when parking in front of hotel is full, they provide you with an easy Plan B solution); bicycles can be used free of charge as well as stand up paddle boards and small boats
Highly recommended! :) Everything was absolutely perfect. Anna and Max are very nice friendly people, accommodation was clean, modern and cosy. The location of the hotel is exactly as we expected. Close to all attractions but not in the crowded city center plus we had a stunning view of the lake.
Very friendly staff and always available to help with touristic information as well as any necessities during our stay. The location of the hotel is very quite and not far from the city center (5 min walking). Ferry and Schafbergbahn terminals at walking distance (3 min).
The place was very cosy, newly decorated, with all the comfort you can expect. Plenty of space and clean. Situated close to the lake, in a quiet spot, but at walking distance from the center of St. Wolfgang. Great value for the ( admittedly high) price!
Location is just perfect with wonderful view of mountains and the lake.
You have private pier with various free of charge services: SUP, boat, deckchairs etc.
You can also rent bikes at the hotel.
There is also friendly staff and nice restaurant.
Very clean and bright room, good location (close to the lake, St. Wolfgang, tour boats) and very kind owner who let us print concert tickets that we forgot to print at home. Overall very good experience. We will definitely come back.
First of all, the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful! The breakfast was excellent, and the room was clean. The location is also amazing; it is convenient to go hiking or take a bus to the sightseeing views.
The hotel has perfect location. Close to the ship and train station. Hotel has the perfect view of the lake. The public area is very big and cozy. The gentleman who at reception is very friendly and helpful.
Great location, amazing lake view, staff was always nice and ready to help, parking place close to hotel, tasty brealfast. It is one of hotel you want to come back.
Fam. Strobl takes great pride in extending their Austrian hospitality. They were just wonderful. The views from the Altroiterhof are spectacular. We loved it.
Every thing you need for excellent stay. Location, view, food, facilities and staff. Really amazing hotel.
