The cabin was very well presented and the owner went to the trouble of making sure the heater was on upon our arrival due to us arriving quite late. We had break supplied as well as organic shampoo and conditioner. Very nice to see. Recycling was in place as well. Very nice to wake up in the morning to the alpacas and the view. In addition to this the owner made sure we knew what was and what wasn't available in the area i.e. petrol places, food ect. Very helpful information.

Beautiful place to stay and the owners are fantastic people, if you’re looking for somewhere to stay close to Mt Field then this is it. The cabins are very well equipped and a good kitchen. The only problem is there are not really any cafés or restaurants close by. The close being Mt Field Visitors centre or New Norfolk, but these are close by.

Maydena is the last stop for last minute supplies before the long trip to Strathgordon and the S.W. Wilderness area.
Probably better to stock up before then for essentials as we did.
We were forewarned by the owners that the restaurant was closed - we traveled in winter.

Maydena is a tiny town with the vibe of Twin Peaks.
Maydena is a tiny town with the vibe of Twin Peaks. A great base for fishing the Tyenna River for trout and exploring the Styx Valley. Make sure to check out Lake Pedder and Gordon Dam if water is your thing. There are lots of beautiful, magical walks at Mt Field National Park which is about 25 mins down the road.
We also recommend checking out the Big Tree Reserve, Junee Cave, Russell Falls.
Buy supplies in New Norfolk as there were no supermarkets. Get dinner at the Giants Table and Cottages pub, lots of dietary requirements can be met.

Cottage was very nicely decorated and very cosy, but there is nothing very much around and you would need to do your own cooking. Otherwise it was equipped with the necessary utensils etc. The hosts were very friendly. They had a nice backyard with baby goats and chickens, and a pond where we saw a platypus! It made for a nice early morning walk.

The place was very clean and comfortable, with all basic amenities and breakfast. Checking in and out was a breeze, and the heater was on warming up the room when we arrived. But the main perk is the alpacas! Adorable and cute, and we had the chance to feed them. Would recommend to couples for a romantic trip.
