We felt our stay at Racecourse Inn was home away from home. Annabelle and Richard took care of us beyond what we expected. We felt welcomed, they were warm, friendly, and we felt as if we were like living in our own family home.

Annabelle was a super host- so accomodating, hospitable and caring. The Racecourse Inn has a lot of character, is well equipped with comfortable beds, great shower and a yummy breakfast. We will be back!

The Racecourse Inn was spectacular!!! There were 6 of us in our group staying there (in 3 rooms) and everyone was blown away at how large the rooms were!!! And the attention to detail such as including homemade muffins & biscuits upon arrival was so sweet. The rooms were far superior to any hotel we have stayed in. The staff were delightful and went above and beyond to assist us. The breakfast was also pretty AMAZING!!! Thanks so much!

Very nice accommodation, greats hosts who served a lovely breakfast. Highly recommend

The hosts have really gone out of their way to make this location a superb place to stay. The room was fabulous, so many thoughtful touches and facilities. The breakfast was the best I think I've ever had anywhere. The hosts were very helpful and friendly and we really hope to stay again on a future trip to Tasmania. Longford was a great location to see many interesting historical and natural places in that part of the island. This Inn is a real gem.

very prefect garden, nautral foods and kindly owner

Complimentary bonuses like port in the room and fresh muffins each day.

Lovely accommodation and beautiful breakfast. Our hosts went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. We had home baked muffins delivered to our door on arrival and the next day we had home baked chocolate and raspberry slice baked by our host .

The location was ideal for me as i was attending a course nearby in Longford. The breakfast were divine! Stewed fruit from the garden, cooked breakfast with every condiment you could desire. Service was perfect too! Highlight was returning after a long day to freshly baked cakes each evening.

Great old building with a fascinating history set in lovely gardens. Welcoming and helpful hosts. Friendly dog and cat, plus sheep and chooks.

The Racecourse Inn, originally "The Northern Hotel", was purpose built as a coaching inn in 1860 by Ticket-of-Leave convict William Dean. Constructed of convict made bricks, the inn has always accommodated ten guests, with two spacious rooms downstairs rooms and three upstairs. The current dining room was originally a ballroom, and features a unique barrel vaulted ceiling, one of only three of its type in Tasmania. Furnished with Australian colonial antiques, the house is still welcoming weary travellers nearly 160 years after it was built.
We love beautifully cooked fresh Tasmanian produce, good wines, photography and exploring the wonderful surroundings of the northern midlands. You'll also find us in the local auction houses searching for antique treasures for this gorgeous house. Richard is a farrier by trade, and after cooking our guests a delicious breakfast, travels northern Tasmania shoeing horses. Annabelle is an artist and photographer, and paints watercolours of Tasmanian wildlife and flora in her spare time. We enjoy showing guests around our lovely cottage garden, and introducing guests to our animals - Dolly and Stormy our two black sheep, the chickens, Pippin, the Tasmanian Smithfield collie, and Delphine, the cat.
Longford was first settled in 1813, part of the Norfolk Plains, a rich agricultural region. As one of the oldest towns in Tasmania, Longford has many Georgian and early Victorian buildings which contribute to a delightful townscape, with two World Heritage properties - Woolmers Estate (also home to the National Rose Garden), and Brickendon Farm Estate - only minutes from the town centre. Well known for its beautiful gardens and English style hedges, Longford is at the confluence of the Macquarie and South Esk Rivers, and also offers some of the best fly fishing in Australia. We are also only a short drive from the beautiful Tamar Valley Wine Route, and an easy day trip from the stunning beaches on the east coast, and Cradle Mountain.
