A beautiful place to stay; in fact, my favourite throughout the whole trip. So much thought has been put into every detail. They have done a great job with consiously reducing their ecological footprint while still providing every luxury you could want. The local teas, coffee and breakfast treats were amazing too. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone else visiting the daintree rainforest!

The bungalows are very unique with the outdoor kitchen and open air bathroom. The room is nicely done and the added touches of fresh petals, hand made soaps and the incredible breakfast. We were there for 2 nights and given lots of fruit, muesli, bread, coffee etc. Really nicely done. The setting, in the rain forest, is absolutely beautiful. It is a very tranquil and comfortable spot.

We loved the beautiful outdoor kitchen and hot tub!! Easy access to everything in the Daintree while still feeling completely and totally isolated, it’s was HEAVEN!!

We stayed in the Mangosteen bungalow for three nights and it was wonderful! Don't expect TV and fast Wi-Fi, instead relish the views to Thornton Peak during the day and the Milky Way at night. Jill and Peter are excellent hosts, providing lots of info on top spots to visit, as well as some very nice extras, like a fruit platter, fresh baked bread, local coffee, and handmade soap. The room and furniture are first class. We loved this place and highly recommend it.

A private, relaxing, off grid but comfortable retreat with lovely views and a great outdoor bath. I recommend bringing your own food because it was so nice to be there in the evening. We slowed right down and didn't worry too much about sightseeing.

  • Do you get any phone reception?
    On our site Optus is reasonable, no Telstra. There are hotspots in the area for both.

  • Is smoking allowed on the balcony?
    Yes, although we request the guest to have windows and sliding doors closed and consideration for future guests. There are also comfortable areas next to bungalows. Just for your information the bungalows are single stories, each with decking.

  • Hi there,… Are there any hiking or walking trails in the area of your accommodation? Also approximately how long to drive to Palm Cove? Regards, Neil
    Approx 2hr drive from Palm Cove. A number of boardwalks within easy drive from our location i.e within a range of 30 minutes. More strenuous hike, Mt Sorrow is accessible from Cow Bay too.

Elevated on a hill to capture tropical breezes, the property has stunning views of Thornton Peak, Cape Tribulation and the Coral Sea. We are located in close proximity to the beautiful Cow Bay beach, numerous waterholes, mangroves and rainforest boardwalks. Our location is ideally suited to travel this special area - from Cape Tribulation to the Daintree River The bungalows’ construction utilised rammed earth to ensure a cool interior and designed to maximise views of the mountain ranges from the comfort of your bedroom and bathroom. Each bungalow has private undercover decking with seating and self -contained cooking facilities. Each has an private outdoor bath to look at the evening sky and landscape. A significant area of the property has trees with discrete open spaces as well as tranquil spots to enjoy the flora and fauna. Further, there is a creek, meandering through Wompoo that ensures a welcome retreat for quieter contemplation.
We are a friendly couple who respect people's privacy. Our house is 20 metres away from the bungalow. Guests are more than welcome to come up to the house if they have any questions, would like any advice on the area or need to access the wi-fi. We also take bookings for reef trips and other activities in the area. The Neighbourhood During the two hour drive from the Cairns International and Domestic Airports, you will travel the scenic Coral Sea coastline till you cross the Daintree River by ferry. Once aboard the iconic ferry you can sense the change of pace as you slowly switch off and start your journey of digital detoxing. Wompoo Eco Retreat is just five kilometres from the beautiful Cow Bay Beach. Other easily accessible places are Hutchinson Creek, the Daintree Discovery Centre, Coopers Creek Wilderness tours, Canoe Tours, tropical ice cream outlets and a yoga retreat. Reef trips from Cape Tribulation can be arranged by your hosts and this is only a 30 min drive away. There are a number of restaurants and a hotel in the area, however, if you would like to eat in at your accommodation the bungalow is equipped for self catering.
