We stayed at Gully Point in Hometown, Saint James, Barbados, which was an excellent Villa 15 mins walk to the beach/town.
The beaches are excellent, some with less or slightly more rocks depending on where you are, but able to enjoy the water and beach at many locations fairly easily.
If you're not wanting to spend too much $$ for a fancy beachside restaurant, you can often rent a pair of chairs and umbrella for ~ $20 USD for the day and bring your own drinks/food.
The city of Holetown has everything you need from grocery store, Starbucks, restaurants, beachside bars and restaurants.
There are locals who will offer seadoo or various other water sport experiences, but be sure to bargain otherwise it can get very expensive.
Very good overall beach area to visit, safe, but it is a bit on the pricier side in comparison to other islands.

There are 2 or 3 main areas for "stuff" in Barbados... there's the area around Worthing Beach / Carlisle Beach / Christchurch - just south of Bridgetown known as St Lawrence Gap / Oistins.
There's Speightstown
...and there's St James - known as the platinum coast. St James has good beaches and some of the best restaurants and bars on the Island. Great supermarkets for the self-catering traveller and amazing hotels for those who want cosseting.

I only spent a day in St James but I found it to be more peaceful than the Southern coast. The beache I visited was just as lovely as the nicest beach I visited in Worthing. there were fewer shopping opportunities as the area is mostly residential with more impressive hotels

Great location with plenty of nice bars, restaurants, beach access and shops. Busy highway running through but accommodation is plentiful and it isn’t hard to find a quiet spot.
The Tides, Seashed and Fusion are all great options. Buses and taxis readily available everywhere.

St James is an excellent area for a Beach holiday.
St James is an excellent area for a Beach holiday.
But I’m biased I was born in St James. I always return there.
There are very nice pubs and restaurants, you get to see the sun go down. It easy to get to other part of the island. Great public transport links.
Holetown has the Limegrove shopping precinct and a vibrant night life. Massey’s supermarket and Cave Shepherd shopping experience, if you run out of funds there are several cash machines and Banks available.

Saint James is a quiet town but tourists can still access busy areas such as the Saint Lawrence gap easily from this parish. Lots of nearby pubs for live entertainment and lots of food options to choose from. However food in this region is rather expensive compared to the city Bridgetown.
Club Barbados was Ok but probably not the best place for me as I only wanted breakfast and did not want to stay around the hotel. It was a little to busy and loud eg music in the evening for me but I think to be fair they did what they did well for much of their clientele. I also had and have an ongoing issue with the high resort tax which was imposed and not communicated by their staff accurately. My credit card was taken on registration and they said nothing was taken from it but that was not the case.
Wonderful friendly staff, great food in the restaurant, fab swimming pools and the one bedroom apartment we stayed in was FANTASTIC (overlooked the sea with a big terrace and very spacious). This was one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Amazing location just over the road from a stunning beach and Payne's Bay 2mins up the coast. Thanks to all the wonderful staff who made it such a lovely stay. Also go to Golden Anchor round the corner for beer and I Wayne's amazing fishballs!
The hotel is in a good location. It is very close to the beach although it is a smaller beach than I am used to but it is mainly used by the hotel visitors. The hotel is clean and the staff are all very friendly. No request is too much for them. the food is also very good. we had a lovely large room with sea views and the facilities were good too. no complaints.
The price. Compared to other properties nearby, it was cheaper and probably had more space that the average hotel room for a similar or higher price. I loved the balcony with the accordion door that could open up the entire length of the wall. The security measures for this entire complex made me feel safe.
The most wonderful location overlooking the beach - stunning.
The Masseys supermarket was just over the road and the small Apt kitchen was well equipped for simple meals.
Thomas and 'Shack' were amazing assisting us with everything around the hotel. What great guys Thank you
not enough can be said about our wonderful host Denise and her family: they were very welcoming and very kind to us during our whole visit. when we return to Barbados this will always be our choice of where to stay…. I cannot imagine anything more wonderful.
Loved the bedroom but unfortunately the rest of the hotel was abit tired . Not many guests so you would have thought they would have made sure that the rest of the hotel was looking amazing as they had the time
Really friendly hotel with great staff and good facilities.
Our room (the 2 bedroom) was well designed and perfect for a family. We had good kitchen facilities, a great washer / dryer, and very comfy beds.
