Aalter isn't much to look at but the main square has a few nice, typical Belgian restaurant/cafés where you can enjoy a nice steak or some mussels along with a Jupiler beer. It's right next to the main motorway between Calais and Brussels, about halfway between Bruges and Gent so ideal for a stopover.

We were going from Wales to Berlin and needed an overnight stay, somewhere we could get a good sleep and a nice breakfast in the midst of all the driving. About 75 mins from Channel tunnel so one feels one has made inroads on the trek across Europe before stopping for the night. Quiet town, nice restaurant in the square, the train to Bruges (15 mins) offers a chance to see a little bit of the city while passing through.

The hotel itself was spotlessly clean and comfortable, and with free parking, WiFi, and breakfast was exceptionally good value. The breakfast was a continental breakfast with a great variety of items, and additional facilities for making simple omelettes, sausages, boiled eggs, and pancakes. There is a variety of restaurants just minutes walk away in the village. We would happily stay here again, or recommend it to anyone.

We particularly appreciated the coffee machine and the ability to make tea. The room was extremely clean and well-designed, and the House was quiet and peaceful. The owners are polite and friendly, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, this was one of the best hotel experiences we've had in a long time, and we left feeling happy and satisfied

Lovely breakfast with all what you need for to start your day. Peaceful area with no noise and the back yard oversees the field with the sheep.
