ABOUT CALGARY:
Calgary is our hometown in Canada. This city means a lot to each of our family members, with many things to visit, stay, and enjoy.
Calgary is a major gateway to Banff and the Rocky Mountains, which are a one-hour drive to the west. It is also the sunniest of Canada's large cities, enjoying an average of 2396 hours of bright sun each year, spreading over 333 days.
Calgary is a centre for big companies - it has the second-highest number of headquarters that belong to Canada's largest companies. Calgary has 115 head offices listed on the Financial Post 500 ranking, behind Toronto's 276.
Calgary also serves as the headquarters of Canada's oil industry. In recent decades, the city has attracted Canadians from other provinces and skilled workers from all over the world. This has resulted in an increasingly multi-cultural society that manifests itself in a variety of ethnic restaurants and festivals like Carifest Caribbean Festival, Afrikadey!, Expo Latino, Taste of Calgary.
Calgary's position at the heart of Alberta's beef country is reflected in the Western-themed festival known as the Calgary Stampede. The city and its immediate outskirts are home to many attractions, such as the Calgary Tower, Stephen Avenue Walk, Glenbow Museum, Devonian Gardens, Calgary Zoo, Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, and Calaway Park.
Calgary has a full range of educational, medical, cultural, artistic, sporting and shopping facilities. Just some of these amenities are the UfC, Foothills Medical Centre, EPCOR Centre for the Performing Arts, Jubilee Auditorium, Pengrowth Saddledome, Talisman Centre for Sport and Wellness, Canada Olympic Park, and Spruce Meadows.
There also are attractions that can be visited during day trips from Calgary such as Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Interpretive Centre, and Kananaskis Country.
Calgary with its Rocky Mountains skyline view from the Nose Hill Park is a must-visit.
