Welcome to our Historic Mansion, constructed in 1895. The original owner Thomas 'Carbide' Willson, a prominent Canadian engineer, chemist and entrepreneur, spared no expense when building his “castle”. This can be appreciated in the workmanship seen throughout the estate. The ambiance we want guests to experience is our top priority and we make it our mission to create a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. It is the perfect setting for a romantic getaway, reunions, business trips, golf getaways, antique shopping, girl’s weekends, wedding accommodation, and much more! Each room has its own unique character, some with fireplaces made of many varieties of rich wood and ceramics; curved tower windows; crafted patterned plaster; built-in bookcase in the octagonal library/sitting room; and cherubs dancing on the ceiling of the library. Antique furnishings and art can be seen throughout the house. The elegant exterior of ruby volcanic-stone is in the Queen Anne Revival style with a circular tower, rare red slate roof, balconies, and soaring chimneys.
Inn keeping is an interesting lifestyle, like almost nothing else you can experience on the job. We love the fact that we can make a living doing something that is so much fun and at the same time have a hand in making guests' trips spoiled, relaxing and memorable.
Château la Motte is located in one of the most architecturally outstanding areas of the town, Vansittart Avenue. Return to the time of Woodstock's great wealth when you stay at this magnificent property listed on the National and Provincial Registers of Historic Homes, and appreciate the preservation of the past of this small town. “Van Ave” as it now is commonly called, always has been considered as "the Avenue", and to live on the Avenue was the final step up the social ladder of the elite of Woodstock at the turn of the Century. A glance down the list of residents turns up a fair collection of doctors, lawyers, merchants, gentlemen, and town and county officials. The social standing of these people is quite visible in some of the homes that are still standing. The owners of these homes engaged any amount of domestic help, including gardeners, parlor maids, and kitchen help. Often a retired army officer would keep his man on as a private servant. Yes, it was something to live on the Avenue.
