Your host, Marlis
Welcome to Waterford House. You will be centrally located adjacent to our vibrant downtown and three doors from the footbridge over the Otonabee River connecting you to walking bridge and trails. Ours is a quiet neighbourhood. Waterford House was completely reconstructed inside and made into to two separate suites with soundproofing between. It has king beds in both suites with flannel/cotton sheets and cases, feather duvets, feather pillows, foam pillows, hair dryers, ensuite bathrooms with heated tiled floors, full kitchens that are equipped, barbecues (King with Gas, Queen with Charcoal), carport, keyed private entrances, gardens. King Suite has a sofa bed for additional person. Weekly maid service for monthly stays, Free WiFi, satellite TV and all amenities included. Suites have ensuite laundries, closets, central vacuum, BOSE sound systems, DVD players and comfortable outdoor furniture. Top quality furnishings and linens. A favourite of business and executive travellers. You are very welcome here. Monthly and longer stays are invited but I suggest a short stay to begin and make sure it is your favourite option.
I am a daughter of a Southwest Saskatchewan wheat farm family, we grew a huge garden, raised chickens, milked cows and rode horses to school, moved to a small city at age 12, moved to a bigger city at age 16, attended The University of Alberta, Calgary and graduated with B.A. in English and Economics. A dream to see the world led to a year travelling by backpack, another year working in Malaysia/Canada, and a marriage to a travel agency businessman which led to world travel as a business person. Worked in companies -- research, manufacturing and architecture -- and worked in government in community and organization development. In 1990 I became single and started my own business in hospitality and healthy aging. I dream of writing, travel, dining, wilderness exploration. I plan to go to the Arctic and work to learn about it. I enjoy people and find the world to be a place full of interesting people, even though so many people are suffering the earth is still a wonderful place full of good people. I have found my home in Peterborough and have stayed more than 40 years, in a wonderful neighbourhood with many opportunities to be involved as a business person and as a volunteer.
It is a small neighbourhood adjacent to the vibrant downtown. The houses are mostly professional people and professors, many of them retired. Lots of people walk their dogs and their friends in the trails and parks just behind Waterford House. The neighbours watch out for each other and are friendly. We have groups for yoga, book clubs, street parties, garden networking and issues discussion and activism. My neighbourhood and the city are safe for pedestrians and cyclists. The downtown has many restaurants, entertainment in movies, music, theatre, performance arts, libraries and art galleries, with manufacturing included in small pockets. Public transport, local and intercity, is available and proficient, the airport is 15 min away and connects to Toronto Island airport (many private planes but one tour company with monthly jaunts to US cities, islands in the sun, Quebec, etc.) The Canada Trail passes through Peterborough and is 5 min from my neighbourhood. We shop at the local Farmers Market on Saturday mornings year round and on Wednesday morning in the summer. Social services, manufacturing, tourism and agriculture make up our economy, and music and the arts are very strong.
