So much to see. The day trips were packed and whistle-stop. I could have spent longer at most of the locations. Such a beautiful area. Because the day trips were so long, I needed to take a break between each one so I wasn't over-tired and I could properly enjoy the experience.

Easy to get around on taxis and buses. Easy access to the Dunes and Mogao Caves, all near town. Easy going city that’s right on the edge of Gobi desert with beautiful dunes. Two full days was perfect for us. We ate at the Shazhou night market each night and it was so fun and delicious!

    1). Worth visiting once.

1). Worth visiting once. 2) Worth buying English version of books as it provide more detail info and descriptions than what you can actually see. 3) Good and very cheap public transportation to anywhere. 4) Delicious BBQ and boiled lambs. Eat only st Muslim owned eateries as they are more authentic, cheaper and gives bigger portions. 5. Not worth visiting any great wall sections there as there's nothing to see and admission is overpriced. Better to visit the Great Walls in Beijing, esp the Jin Shan Ling Great Wall, Mutisnyu, Huanghua Water Great Wall or for a more challenging experience, Badaling or Nu Yong Gian Great Walls (nearest from Beijing if insufficient time) 6. Go visit the 1700 year old Lei Ying Temple after your visit from Crescent Moon Lake/Ming Sha Shan as its only 1 bus stop back. And the Dunhuang Museum. Both these 2 places are free. But do make a contribution to the Temple by dropping noney into the collection boxes in front of each Buddha statues as imthe columns and outer walls are in need of some care.

Nice place but the attractions are too commercialised and too crowded. The entrance fees are way too expensive. In my opinion, the Western Thousand Buddha Caves, Yumen Pass & Yangguan Pass can be omitted.

Tours and attractions are way more interesting than other things in China. I love this place and the desert. I'll be back for sure. No shortage of good food to eat. Lots of variety even for me as a vegan. I ate at the night market and local restaurants. Mogoa caves and the Geo park were my favorite spots... Oh and the sand dunes. Local buses are easy to use and cheap. The tours are long and full itenery, great value for money. As a solo traveler camping out in the desert on an arranged tour was great. I met many interesting people and had such good fun!

It was a good stop over after our far west travels and a good place to take a rest. Found. Alovely coffee place down town called memory box and and a small Hui muslin family run restaurant opposite the night market ! Nice walks along the river especially I think evening watching the locals dance, chatter or enjoying the cooler evening weather

Very good hotel for the price. Room is nice and clean and has everything you need. The staff there are super helpful with all questions from directions to tours and getting taxis. I went on a tour organised by the hotel to key places outside of Dunhuang like yumen pass and ghost city. The tour is good value and a must do. I would recommend to everyone for a trip to Dunhuang

The staff was very nice and gave us a family room. The room was nice and big. The parking behind the hotel is very convenient, easy to go and leave. The hotel is just walking distance from the night market, so at night have a lot of dinner options. The TV has many western movies, really cool.

The location is pretty great, 5 mins walk to the night market, where you'll find loads of amazing local dishes! The room is spacious, and lovely, decorated in Dunhuang style. The owner is a pretty nice guy, offered us lots of information for travel, food etc.

The management is helpful and friendly. Provided free pick up to hotel area, prepared our breakfast according to our departure schedule. The room is comfortable and as described, we can see stars from our room.

This was a great, quiet hotel on the agricultural outskirts off the beaten tourist track. Breakfasts were easily best I've had for Chinese-style. Staff were great and gave a warm, family vibe.
