It’s the best location to stay on your first night,...
It’s the best location to stay on your first night, especially if you arrive in the evening and don’t have an “all inclusive“ vacation booked; and best location for your last night in Costa Rica, due to the proximity to the airport.
Be warned, the red taxis are really expensive and Uber drivers are allowed to drop you off at the airport, but are not allowed to pick you up from the airport. Most places that offer accommodation, also offer a pickup service from the airport. Take it. The closer to the airport, the cheaper they get; prices start at $5 and could get to $35, $40 US dollars , depending on the distance to the airport.
Most rental cars offices are around the airport, so, look for a place to stay not too far away from the airport and one that offers drop off to a rental car office. If not, it’s always an Uber driver available. The closer to the airport, the better, for first and last night stay, because driving in the city could take a veeeeeery long time.
If you have time, walk the streets of Alajuela, people are very friendly and ready to help. Be very careful, the water tranches along the pedestrian walkways, are very deep, and the holes on the uneven pavement are deep as well, but definitely go to the city’s fresh market; it is a very interesting experience. Make sure you calculate well the prices, from corones into dollars, lots of vendors will try to take advantage of you, if you don’t pay attention. You can pay in US dollars everywhere, except for buses (long distance or local buses); the dollar bills must be pristine, one little tear anywhere on the bill, will be refused.
All in all is a nice city full of hustle and bustle, with lots of cars and people, with little parks with amazing trees, lots of perrots, delicious fresh fruits and gelatos

Quite noisy and a bit dirty.
Quite noisy and a bit dirty. People are nice, but food was a disappointment - it was almost impossible to find fresh vegetarian food that hadn’t been processed. Everything was fried in grease and had meat in it.

A horrible crowded traffic-glutted ugly town, which however has a great bookstore - Goodlight books - and a noisy rather grim organic cafe called Chante with really good food and vegan ice cream, but the traffic outside is awful. Rorro's Mexican restaurant was warm-hearted and fun but lots of fried stuff and the veggie tacos were horrible, with rubbery eggplant. The french fries were awful compared to the ones at Chante. My friend found driving in Alajuela a nightmare.

They did not accept the price booked and confirmed on booking.com, even though I showed the reservation.
We arrived in the evening tired and taking advantage of this, they gave us rooms at a much higher price. In addition, the next day after we left, the price of one night was deducted from my account again!!!
Terrible!

View is splendid.Thats about it!!! The staff is extremely rude and have no customer service experience.Rooms uncomfortable and dirty.Pool next to bedroom and parking lot.Too difficult to arrive to .No food at all .Only junk food . Terrible breakfast.
We won't ever go back
Despite the busy road just in front of the hotel - and the airport within its direct vicinity, you barely notice this all when you enter the hotel and hit for its poolside area. Planes didn't fly over during the night (they did from 7 am and were quite loud :D) so the night was perfect. Breakfast was spot-on, right what we remembered from our last trip to Costa Rica 12 years ago, very tastful gallo pinto and the best pancakes for our kids.
Hotel Robledal is one of our go-to's when it comes to the airport in San Jose. It's comfortable there, clean, and it's easy to get to or from the airport with the free shuttle. There are several people on staff that I enjoy seeing. The gardens and little pond are refreshing and the pool is just enough for a nice dip or a little fun with the family. You can find cheaper places but they won't be as convenient or relaxing.
Very nice garden where you can even spot colibris. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the center of Alajuela, close to the central market and the bus terminal, it is perfect for people arriving or departing from the airport. The breakfast is included and is tasty.
The boutique hotel was really cool, like nothing I experienced before. The guests and staff were super interesting to chat with in the courtyard. There is a dog that works at the front desk who greets everyone with a new bow in her hair everyday. Right in the middle of Alajuela.
Probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in. It's brand new and they were super kind. The food was amazing, the bed and room was lovely and they even had free laundry, which was so amazing as the last hotel tried to charge me $20 to do a load. Amazing staff. Highly recommended.
We chose the hotel because it is close to the airport. It was cheap compared to the other possibilities and provided free shuttle to the airport. In the nearby it is easy to find something to eat, or buy food and eat on the terrace.
Best place to stay one night in 5 minutes from airport. Free breakfast. Free shuttles. Clean, calm and a lot of restaurants just in front of the hotel + big shopping center (4 minutes) + Walmart (2 minutes).
Lovely room and breakfast. As this was a stop over but near airport. Alajuela is a bit run down but made welcome by staff especially son who had vey good English & who advised us where to go.
