This is a great hotel. Rooms are large and well appointed. The pool is exceptional (very large with many special features). The location is close to a number of National Park Beaches. Restaurant was very good for the few meals we ate there. My favorite feature for this hotel was the exceptional Nature Trail they carved into the jungle. The trail is about a mile long and is very well done. Gives you a close up look at the jungle with minimal effort.

The hosts went above and beyond to make us feel welcome! They were super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed! We really liked the atmosphere of the pace, the decoration and murals really gave it the pirate theme. The hostel was a 3 minute walk to the beach and a grocery store (great location).

Amazing views. We saw white faced capuchin monkeys and all sorts of birds (including hummingbirds and tucans) from our very clean and comfortable room.
Very kind and helpful staff. They were even patient with my Spanish :-)
The restaurant had good food. The best Gallo Pinto we had during our trip so far.
We can definitely recommend the stay!

There are so many locally owned places to stay in Costa Rica making it a game of chance to find a good one, Tecal is a good one. When we arrived we found Tecal to be a popular destination as the parking lot was full. People used it for a vacation stay as well as for business. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff helpful and friendly. It was a short 300 meter walk to the beach. The beach is a national park so there is an admission fee, for Costa Ricans it is only 1200 colones. The breakfast was included and was very good. Service in the restaurant was excellent. There is a small super across the street, another restaurant, and a grocery store (MaxiPali) within walking distance.

The restaurant and the servers are the best part of this place and is why we booked here. Carla and Andres were incredible servers and were always doing everything they could to ensure we enjoyed our meals. Being celiac the 100% gluten free menu was a treat! It was so nice to be able to look at the menu and order anything. Even my partner who isn’t celiac said the food was very good. The reception staff and housekeepers were also very nice and did a great job cleaning. The views were very beautiful during the day.

Uvita is a lovely area to stay in, with beautiful beaches and plenty of waterfalls to visit in the area. We recommend taking a trip to visit the mangroves in Sierpes. Our kids loved the surfing lessons they had here.

Uvita is my favorite beach in Costa Rica.
Uvita is my favorite beach in Costa Rica. It's huge, you feel alone on the beach. The wildlife is beautiful. Tons of restaurants and places to walk. There are different beach sectors that you can chose from. It is a National Park, so you have to pay, but it is well worth it. One ticket gets you onto all the beaches. Staff in the Nationals Park is very helpful and there are patrols on the beach from the police and the National Park Guards.

Uvita was ungodly hot -- so hot that we really couldn't enjoy the sights. Even the ocean is hot. An airconditioned hotel room is a must! Even if there are many interesting birds and animals here, unless you have a high heat tolerance, you'll likely be miserable.

It wasn’t my favorite place in Costa Rica.
It wasn’t my favorite place in Costa Rica. Part of the problem was that it was so unbearably hot. I couldn’t go out and walk around comfortably. I didn’t go to the beach because of the heat and that would’ve been a big attraction also although my hotel was not far from town because of the heat again I found it unbearable to walk into town and walk around which I’d like to do when I’m traveling, so basically, my problems with AveUvita were weather related

Uvita is not the typical beach town, as it's very spread out and you need a car or a taxi to move around. In Uvita, you can visit the Marino Ballena National Park, which is possibly the most famous attraction in the area, where you can do whale-watching boat tours and other water sports tours like snorkeling and scuba diving.
We visited the Marino Ballena National Park and found its whale-shaped beach very suggestive and unique. However, we were also very underwhelmed by the poor housekeeping of the park. There was rubbish everywhere and this is disappointing and upsetting given that this is supposed to be a protected natural reserve and you also pay for the access at a substantial price per person, which should guarantee thorough housekeeping.
We went also to Playa Hermosa on our way to Uvita, but the amount of signs warning visitors of possible thieves, ruins a little bit of the vibe and it's not very relaxing having to watch your back all the time. Overall the beach is very nice and nothing happened to us. Since Playa Hermosa is also free to access, we recommend a visit, at least a stop by.

The beach and marine park area are well worth visiting.
The beach and marine park area are well worth visiting. Costs approx $6 which is very reasonable for Costa Rica. We saw humpback whales and heard them singing on our boat tour. We also snorkelled. It wasn't the right season for dolphins (they come in autumn).
There is not much to Uvita itself. It's very spread out and hard to walk around. Most of the roads are unpaved and dusty. It's perfect for a bike though. Many places (including the marine park) close down at 6pm, including most of the tour operators. The restaurants are good. There is a yoga place there but it only seems to have classes Mon-Wed.
The Tracopa bus service in the area (and from SJ) is very comfortable, punctual and reasonably priced. However you really need a car to explore the area properly - waterfalls etc.
House nr 4 was the most quiet one and the nearest the jungle. Was spacious and well equipped. Air-conditioning was working good - very nice after hot days activities. The pool area was amazing. You could chat there and meet people, have some drink and snack. It didn't affect on those who wants to sleep. You could feel there Pura Vida! Hear and see a lot of wild animals and go to the beach to have more experience with nature! It was our the best in Costa Rica!
Fabulous location in Uvita! We did not have a car and found this to be easy walking distance from the beach/Marino Ballena, several restaurants/sodas, supers, and most of the tour companies in Uvita. The chalet was cute and clean, loved the little deck & hammocks. Nice kitchen area, warm shower, comfortable bed, and air conditioner! Near a few other chalets, but the beautiful foliage & location set back from the main road made it feel private & secluded.
I can't say enough good things about Yuli, what a great place to stay! The hotel is beautiful and has a phenomenal yoga studio, pool, and restaurant. I stayed in the dorm-style room and it had tons of space for each traveler. Very clean in shared areas and the rooms. Oscar at the front desk was incredible and went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. This will definitely be my go-to spot in Uvita
The views, location, villas and pool area are all fantastic - especially for the price we paid! We would absolutely recommend this place and would consider visiting again if we go to Uvita.
It was the best WiFi and water pressure we had in Costa Rica (both weak in lots of the places we stayed) and we had an amazing member of staff looking after us during our stay, called Lady.
We loved this place. The views, quiet, food, pool and the room were all excellent. Pedro the host was the best host compared to any place we have ever stayed. There were so many little touches that make this place special. We had many wildlife siting just from sitting on the balcany and enjoying the forest. Sloth, toucans, monkeys and many birds.
Situated on a dirt road, away from traffic noises. Nice pool area and the room was spacious enough and cleaned every day. Nice that you can park the car inside the gate. I loved how everywhere in Uvita you feel close to the nature, birds fly by, even the scarlet macaws and we saw a hummingbird one morning just behind the hotels gate.
Beautiful hotel a little aside from Uvitas main street. There is a nice French bakery right next to it and you can get pretty fast to the beach which is part of the national park. The host did a marvelous job so we would have a good stay and we enjoyed the spots he recommended us. Many thanks for the great time and all the best.
We felt very comfortable in the Tucan and it was great three days! The hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and a great lounge area. We really enjoyed the breakfast. The Gallo Pinto is one of the best in all of Costa Rica! Thanks for the nice time! The whale watching guides booked by the hotel were also highly recommended.
beautiful place, shirt walk to the best beach I’ve ever seen, and not too many people go there. Ronald the landlord was terrific, accommodated for everything. he even gave me 2 rides to the store, plus arranged the best whale watching trip I’ve ever had. Plus he arranged my rides to and from downtown.
Great location, five minute walk to the national park and whale tail beach. The cabin was very large and well equipped. Grounds were well maintained and the kids really enjoyed the pool. If you are visiting Uvita to enjoy the beach with the family, this is a great spot. Parking was nice and secure.
The breakfast was excellent. I was sad to miss my 2nd pancake day because I had an early meet up for diving. The room was in good shape and I was upgraded for staying 6 nights in the off season. Staff was very helpful. The fruit salad is the best dish.
Walking distance to beach, one excellent Mexican restaurant with the best Mexican I’ve ever had a couple minutes walk. We got breakfast included which was nice because there was nothing really walking distance that was safe to get to
Everything was great
The beds weere perfect, especially in comparaison with other airbnb I had.
The host is really available if you need anything
overall the best choice one could make in Uvita if you want calm and tranquility
It was the best place where we stayed in Costa Rica. Really nice and comfy. the common area is super good, rooms are clean and bright. Friendly staff. Beautiful and empty beaches are very close. Were absolutely happy to stay here
Everything was amazing! Monique and Hans are the best. The photos do not capture the beauty of this place. We were served an amazing breakfast the first day and welcomed with open arms.
Beautiful place, great location and amaizing service. The experience was really good, a place to enjoy the pacific coast, close to the best beaches in the area.
Adriana and her family were the best. They took me in like family. She is a great cook, and the additional price MORE than fair. Will definitely go back!
