Cute little town near the airport. Probably not a destination, but, if you have a night to kill before flying out, it's fine. Otherwise, there isn't anything I know of to draw visitors. Couple cute restaurants on the main street. Felt safe walking around after dark.

We did more in San Antonio than we expected to do. The church in the center of town was welcoming, and there are a lot of restaurants with good food and service. The bussing to other areas (San Jose and Heredia) is well marked and has an appropriate schedule. Plus, the area felt safe to walk after sunset. Because of its convivence, we extended our hotel stay to stay in the area, and only bussed to San Jose for the day.

For us La Rivera is a take off and arrival point, so the easy airport access is important. It is an easy walk to a phone store or Pali supermarket for some basics, and the local pista, church and park give you a safe introduction to Costa Rica. There is not much else to do in the immediate area.
This hotel was a gem! The photos did not do it justice. We booked it for our last night in Costa Rica and enjoyed it greatly. The surroundings and decor were tasteful. My husband also enjoyed a dip in the pool.
A big thank you to the staff members as they were exceptionally nice and helpful - I don't like coriander and the staff members did everything to make sure I would have no coriander in my food. If we go back to Costa Rica we will book a longer stay in this hotel as they also organise wildlife trips.
The lady checking us in was very friendly and helpful. She was also very kind to let us check into our room early. She also made sure to show us the room and made sure that everything was clean and working well inside. The room was also a great size and it included a full kitchen with appliances. That was a nice bonus. There is also an excellent local restaurant right across the street from the hotel, which was very convenient.
Esteban, the manager at La Riviera was absolutely incredible, helpful, kind and patient with us as we arrived in the country. He was so accommodating and we felt really relaxed after traveling. The restaurant attached to the hotel is delicious and everyone there is really kind and wonderful. I highly recommend staying here while in San Jose!! Truly a retreat from the bustle and noise of the city.
We booked this hotel for a stay before an early morning flight out of SJO. We were pleasantly surprised with the services and hotel. Staff was super friendly and helpful. They provided us a 3:30AM airport shuttle with breakfast and coffee. The hotel restuarant was decent and affordable. The location is walkable to some shopping areas. Parking is secure and guarded.
We liked the on-site restaurant which is in a separate building in a large open air space. The staff communicated with us everyday to ask about our dining preferences for the next meal. For us, the hotel was just a convenient overnighter near the airport, but we could have stayed here comfortably for much longer.
This place was just what we needed after a long flight. They pick you up from the airport. The beds were very comfy, nice shower and nice outside area where we could chill out and meet with our car rental guy. It exceeded our expectations for a kind of airport hotel. The breakfast was very nice.
Rachel the receptionist was just wonderful and the rooms were large and very well cleaned. In terms of proximity to the airport the hotel works - a short taxi ride. The hotel has a lovely pool and everything it needs to be a really great choice - yet I wouldn't choose it a second time.
We liked the hotel's layout and greenery. Esteban, the manager, was a pleasure to deal with. The breakfast was excellent. We liked the ability to have a "made to order" breakfast rather than a buffet, which isn't often very warm. We would definitely stay again if ever in the area.
The hotel is close to the airport. It has unlimited water and coffee at the reception. The staff is kind and helpful. I would suggestion learning some Spanish words here. The private room is quite big and has everything you may need as well as ventilation.
Very kind staff. The hotel is very close to the airport and they have a free shuttle service which is very convenient. We had to leave earlier than breakfast time and they gave me coffee and fruit to go which was nice. Rooms are simple but clean.
1. The restaurant was very good, and there was also an excellent bakery immediately adjacent to the restaurant.
2. An adorable, friendly cat named "Sol" was at the reception area.
3. The hotel is very close to the airport.
Great value. Free shuttle was easy and quick, room was nice, the staff were friendly. Breakfast was lovely, airport hotels can be hit and miss but this place was spot on. We’re back in San Jose next week so staying again.
Great hotel after arriving from a long flight into Costa Rica. Only stayed one night, but was perfect to get over the jet lag. Restaurant was great and offered lovely food and breakfast.
The staff, grounds and restaurant of the hotel is wonderful. As is the proximity to the airport. Unfortunately, we found the bedrooms and hallways stuffy and dated a little bit.
Loved it - could’ve stayed longer :-) Such a great hotel with lovely staff, incredibly spacious rooms and perfect location for an overnight stay ahead of an AM flight!
