Very small town with little to do. 3-5 nights is more than enough time to see the area. Tourists (and locals) on loud motorbikes and ATVs are everywhere day and night. Not the quiet jungle getaway we imagined.

Montezuma is such a great place.

Montezuma is such a great place. So chilled, the locals are so welcoming and it just does its own thing. There are a number of good places to eat in the very small town so try everywhere out especially in the farthest reaches of town. And shop around for trips. There can be quite a difference in price with the different outlets. During turtle hatching season, be sure to go to the beach to the left of the town and you'll see them dug up and then marching to the sea. It's a heartwarming and unique experience. Also, go back to that beach at night to see the most wonderful stars.

Small but charming and lively resort.

Small but charming and lively resort. Excellent restaurants (particularly fish dishes in 'los Artesanos') and cafes and very easy to book tours through local operators. Crashing rollers and risk of dangerous riptides made swimming somewhat risky, though ideal for surfers. A 40 minute walk along beachside path to north brings you to the magnificent beach of Playa Grande where swimming is a little safer, if not risk-free. A short walk to the south is Montezuma waterfall; it's a must-see although access requires proper footwear and some scrambling/rope work. Swimming in the refreshing pool and launching oneself from the adjacent rocks beneath the falls is highly recommended; not so, climbing up the slippery rocks immediately adjacent to the waterfall as exhibited by some foolhardy locals!

This is a very welcoming place made with a thought for the guests and their comfort! It has everything you need for a top experience, the team was perfect - they take care of all you may need, so you can simply be and enjoy life at the Montezuma beaches! Having the option to cook your own meal, makes it perfect for families with children, but very near-by there are also good restaurants - from 5 stars ones to the simple Sodas - and if you can - dont miss the Soda (Artesanos) nearby, the food there was superb and the prices - surprising in a good way!

It's a very small village, but it has its vibe.

It's a very small village, but it has its vibe. Moreover, there are many things to do around: hiking, surfing, swimming, watching bioluminescence, trip to the Isla de Tortuga is also possible. There are plenty of beaches around, which are within walking distance. Despite its size, there are a few very decent restaurants where I would like to go back. If you are not looking for a crazy party place, it's a fantastic spot for a vacation.

    Montezuma is a beautiful place!

Montezuma is a beautiful place! People are rather friendly and there are a lot of different travelers from all over the world. There is often live music and the environment is rather lively! Is possible to go hiking to the Montezuma Waterfalls, or for a delightful walk to Playa Grande :) It is a long way to get here, but I really think Montezuma is a special gem!

We loved our stay at Hotel Horizontes de Montezuma! The location is perfect for when you have access to a car and want a calmer area. The hotel is located on the hill, a bit further away from the busy restaurant/shop area but still within short driving distance. The staff is super friendly and helpful! The breakfast is delicious. The pool is nice and refreshing and beautiful especially at nighttime under the stars. The rooms are easy, comfortable and clean. Perfect getaway spot for easygoing couples!

Very clean and modern hotel right in Montezuma town. Enjoyed feeling on the edge of the forest, while still being able to hear the waves breaking from the ocean. A lot of wildlife could be viewed from the patio of my room, including white-face and howler monkeys. The staff was very helpful, in particular Emmanduel(sp), who was always patient and good spirited. He is a great person, a natural for the service industry. Food at the restaurant was good.

Lovely full height windows from the room with a view over the pacific. Expect inquisitive monkeys on the balcony! The view of the wildlife from the breakfast terrace is great. The short walk downhill to the nearby waterfall is recommended. The hotel pool is small but good for a cool off. The nearby brewery is great for beers, cocktails and food. It's a steep walk down into the town but the rope bridge is fun to do. (The taxi back is pricey!)

This is a small family hotel right next to the bus stop in Montezuma center so you can walk everywhere. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with an amazing view of the ocean. Fast WiFi so I had no trouble getting some work done. Blanca and Romano were super friendly and accommodating to all our needs. Would stay again and I would definitely recommend it if you want peace and quiet.

I met many friendly people in my short time here. A social hostel in an extraordinary location. Right by the beach and walking distance to town. Affordable and comfortable. If you’re here you have to try the soda across the street! If you’re visiting from San Jose, plan for a day of travel. I took 2 buses and a ferry and got to Montezuma in ~8 hours. Glad I made the trip!

Breakfast was a generous portion and well balanced. We rented the holiday home which was amazing, but was a little big for 2 people. I totally recommend families to try it out. The hotel is very close to the busy part of this amazing neighborhood which features many restaurants by the beach and other amenities.

The location is very clean and private. Has a nice pool where you can get a clear look at the starry sky at night. It is about a 5 minute drive into the main town Montezuma. It is quiet and peaceful, away from the loud city noises. The breakfast is delicious and the owner gave us great tips for our trip.

Great pool, saw howlers and capuchians from the pool. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Rooms on the street are a bit noisy, but the hotel lets you know ahead of time- so no complaints there. The noise tends to die down by 11/midnight. Staff was friendly and professional. We had a great stay!

Lovely place with fabulous staff and perfect location! The compound itself is gorgeous, and it is located right downtown in Montezuma, but tucked away enough for you not to be bothered by noise. Felt extremely safe, too, with staff always present by the entrance. 100% recommended!
