Karlovy Vary owes its affluent grandeur to no fewer than 13 hot springs and a warm water river. Add to this its colourful façades and tree-lined hill setting, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of Europe’s most sophisticated spa towns.
The best views are from the Deer Leap and Diana Tower lookouts, both high above the Grandhotel Pupp, a famous 5-star hotel which starred as James Bond’s gambling retreat in ‘Casino Royale’. It also hosts an International Film Festival, but the city is really about the waters, a fact reflected in its English name – Carlsbad.
You can take the waters at the 5 springs under the Mill Colonnade, and the wrought-iron Market Colonnade houses 2 more. The Park Colonnade employs a similarly impressive style to protect 3 springs, while a geyser bursts up in the Hot Spring Colonnade. The Castle Tower overlooks the Castle Colonnade waters, and a thermal pool at Spa Hotel Thermal overlooks the city.
The beautiful churches of Karlovy Vary include the Russian-styled Church of St Peter and St Paul. The Moser Glassworks produce suitably high quality products, and the Jan Becher Museum provides an idea of what to fill them with – local Becherovka bitter.
Accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels, city centre apartments and guest houses near Karlovy Vary Airport.
The city itself is beautiful. Its location at the riverside with historical-looking buildings and hot springs is exceptional. However, what the city has in architecture, it lacks in facilities, especially restaurants. In general, there are only two major types of places where you can eat: beer houses and places serving Italian cuisine. The food in most of these is pretty good, but it is super expensive - two or three times pricier than what is considered normal in the rest of the country. I figure that you are paying extra for being served in the middle of nowhere at the national border, but it just felt too much. I now think of the city as being home to the posh millionaires who couldn't care less about how much they spend on food and other services.

You can make many trips around both with travel agencies and on your own, using the offers of the Karlovy Vary Card, which you can buy on the Internet. Be sure to visit the Becherevka Museum, the tasting in the morning was very useful) The food is very dense, but you can find a Georgian restaurant, sushi and wonderful desserts.
For health - The effect after taking medicinal water does not appear immediately, but it is very effective. Sleep was restored and body pain disappeared very quickly.

I wanted to stay at least 2 nights in the Karlovy Vary because we missed the spa and some historical point including the Goethe house and view point. However, it was great chance to taste the water of emperor and the original wafer snack.

A beautiful historical city that still has the old times...
A beautiful historical city that still has the old times flair of a spa town favored by aristocracy. A lot to do in terms of wellness and spa activities, plenty of good restaurants and cafes. It is good to read restaurant reviews before visiting and making reservations, good places fill up quick. It is a walkable city, no need to drive. Friendly and helpful information center staff. Recommend visiting the thermal pools and saunas at the Thermal Hotel, Alžbětiny lázně for spa procedures. Worth walking to the Grand Hotel Pupp along side the Teplá river to soak in the atmosphere of the spa city. Worth a two day visit at the minimum.

Karlovy Vary is one of the most beautiful towns I have...
Karlovy Vary is one of the most beautiful towns I have visited in Europe. It is set in a valley and most of the buildings are late nineteenth century. It was and is an upmarket spa resort.
I ate lunch regularly in a traditional pub. The local beer is wonderful.
It is easy to walk around the town and there are good buses.
I also visited by local bus nearly Loket - an idyllic medieval town.
Both Karlovy Vary (and Loket) and featured in the Bond film Casino Royale - where the poker game takes place.
Zaboj restaurant is located in a quiet part of Karlovy Vary, surrounded by hills, forests and beautifull houses. After settling in we went to look for the centre spa in Karlovy Vary, this is an amazing picture of unbelievable architecture. Our accommodation was by the way perfect, our room was really relaxing after all our long journey. In the evening we had a very good last dinner at the end of our vacation here and next morning breakfast was fantastic
The building itself is amazing. Hotel has perfect location in the middle of the spa district. Breakfast was very nice with amazing view. There was everything I would love to eat for breakfast and some more. Very nice lady at the reception and charming coffee place in the ground floor of the hotel. I'm here for second time and next time I'm coming to Vary I'm staying here too.
Very clean, light, modern and spacious. Good value for money. Helpful and attentive owner. Off-street parking. Pleasant suburb. Possible to walk downhill to main sights in Karlovy Vary in under 15 mins. Coming back is uphill, but there are buses from the city centre, and even on an Easter weekend we were able to drive and park near the centre.
- Location is perfect - KArlovy Vary is the most beatuiful place I have ver seen
- Hotel is perfect - from the check-in until check-out, everything was excellent (except two things)
- Becher Bar is phenomenal, with great staff!
- Rooms are clean and spacious
- Breakfast is very good
- Architecture and interiours are making you breathless
The room was well equipped, comfortable and pleasantly furnished. The hotel is beautiful and well located. We particularly enjoyed the spa in the hotel (the swimming pool and sauna were included in the price of the room, they were spacious, not crowded). The facilities were very clean. Winter Karlovy Vary - under snow - was very romantic.
The hotel is very well located, in the centre, but in a quiet area. Being high up, from the rooms overlooking the city you have a wonderful view of Karlovy Vary. The staff is very friendly, the room very spacious and nicely furnished. Very clean and very good breakfast. Free parking is very important. Highly recommended.
The pool, spa and all these things TOP! . Very nice, very easy to get there, to pay, to relax to enjoy The room is perfect, clean, and comfortable and the view is stunning. For me the best view to stay in Karlovy Vary, because the hotel building is the most ugly in town and you don't see it from your point of view.
The Hotel provided excellent service from the beginning to the end. The Spa area is not as big as a thermal spa, but big enough to relax and have a great time. You get as many towels as you need, tea, fruits, pools are warm.
You can walk straight into the main stream and everything is close to the Hotel.
Breakfast was great. Location is also great. The hotel is bit old and quite small, it could definitely use a renovation. The room was very spacious just quite outdated, TV only had Russian TV stations, no Czech programs or international programs so that was bit weird.
The location was really great. The Spa and swimming pool were also nice. Although during the reservation I was told that all the park places are already booked, the hotel staff managed to give me a parking place just in front of the hotel which was quiet comfortable.
The hotel is located centrally, close to bus and train stations, therme, colonnade. The appartement 605 was renovated recently, all furniture and appliances were new and in good working order. Spacious bedroom with a large tv. Well equipped kitchen with dining area.
There is not a single thing we did not love. Our trip to Europe we stayed in over 15 hotels and this was by far our favourite. The best beds in Europe! The location is phenomenal and the hotel feel very luxurious. We loved the bath for a spa experience…
The spa facilities, the location and hotel itself were good, we were there off season and wanted to be a bit remote for NewYear's, yet there is a lot to explore around. And overall cleaniliness/housekeeping was good. Oh and very dogfriendly
It’s one of the best hotels we have stayed. The staff is very polite and friendly, the room is very comfortable and cozy. Spa and wellness area are very relaxing. It was our second time in the hotel and we cannot wait to come back.
Good breakfast, good spa, room is spacious. Hotel is situated in a quite zone within a 15 min walking distance to the main street with all springs. Parking is a big plus as well. Spring water can be drank directly in the hotel.
The host was very attentive and gave us tips on where to eat and drink and what to see. The apartment was close to the old town and had a parking space which is really hard to come by in Karlovy Vary.
Excellent location and the price couldn't be better in Karlovy Vary. The apartments are spacious and clean, right in the center of town. The owner is very nice.
Highly recommend!
