It was a very private visit; for example, we were the only people in the spa. It seemed that way in the entire building. 😊
We liked the wonderful chandeliers – they were truly impressive and luxurious.

Beautiful old town with picturesque landscape and wonderful parks.
A lot of culture - music, theatre etc. The Cultural Academy of Tartu University has brought new vibe with it's students into the old town.

Compact city with a very laid back vibe which is easy to explore on foot. Everyone was helpful even though I don't speak Estonian, and overall it feels like a welcoming place. It's not a 'bright lights' kind of city, but a great place to relax and wander at a relaxed pace. There are lots of cafes, restaurants and bars in town, though I only had time to check out Fellinn for lunch and Romaan bar for a drink. Both were excellent - the bread at Fellinn is particularly delicious, and the barman at Romaan recommended me a perfect craft beer for my tastes. Also loved my walk around the castle ruins and a visit to the Kondas Centre to see their current exhibition.

Best time to visit is definitely the summer and autumn since Viljandi has a lot of parks, gardens and other green areas - walk, run, cycle or just sit on a bench and do some dolce far niente. There's always a good exhibit or two (or three) in Kondas Art Centre and every time I visit there's a new café or lounge just opened and eager to surprise.
P.S! Bring your best walking shoes since public transport within the city runs once in a blue moon.

Located equal distance from the Capital Tallinn as the University town Tartu and the Beach/Spa resort town of Pärnu, and approximately halfway between them, Viljandi is a hidden pearl! It has stayed relatively safe from utilitarian architecture, and managed to keep a lot of its Independence Era charm. Little streets and alleys, cafes and restaurants, magnificent Castle ruins, all are populated by friendly local people. Viljandi is not one of those towns that come alive only during Festivals (of which they hold many), but a living, growing place that has managed to preserve its charm and keep it present.
Whatever you may dream of, you may find that hidden in Viljandi

It's certainly one of my favorite places in Estonia with quite a lot of culture and history and the story behind it. This city seems to be first founded and occupied by the German elites and so the traces of high-class families, architecture, and culture could be seen throughout the city. I really enjoyed just walking and taking photos of the buildings.
I liked everything and as an extra, as I happened to be the only breakfast host, I asked to lower the music (disgusting, as in many hotels, as I myself like hip hop) and not only did they lower the sound but they decided to turn it off for me, so nice. Not everyone is so sensible to different musics, of course. But it was so nice.
This is a charming hotel with some very personal rooms in the old main building. More charming than those big standard hotel where you have hundreds of similar standard rooms.
Very peaceful street, a short and very nice walk to the center. Big supermarket nearby.
Great stay in Viljandi. Easy to access everything. Very good place for morning runners. If you don't mind few steps then you can easily find yourself running beside a big lake. Very stylish hotel and good breakfast.
It is located in the quiet Viljandi suburb. Cute small rooms for short stays. Breakfast had all the main things (muesli, porridge, eggs, sandwiches, good coffee) you would want from an Estonian breakfast.
I had an amazing stay in Viljandi, my favorite city in Estonia! The apartment deserves 3 points for its prime location, cozy vibes, and stunning lake view. Truly a home away from home.
Really nice apartment in a quiet location, just a short walk to all Viljandi's sights. Comfy bed, all necessary facilities, easy parking and self check-in. Excellent value for money!
Aasa Guesthouse is located by Lake Viljandi and we had a room with a lake view. The room was clean, cozy, and very tastefully decorated. The hotel staff was very friendly.
