A 100 year old rural house in Galicia with traditional architecture preserved but restored in 2015, so it has all the comforts of the modern day home with the traditional aesthetics of the region. Located above the Roman bridge on which the famous battle of Ponte Sampaio was fought, the house itself is in ideal setting for rest and relaxation whilst still being within distance of local Galician towns (Pontevedra 12 km, Vigo 21km, Santiago de Compostela 80km) and sites for day trips. What´s more, it´s an obligatory stop for pilgrims who walk the Portuguese Camino de Santiago, so expect to see a few ramblers in the village from time to time.
My name is Marián and I have lived in Ponte Sampaio for almost as long as I can remember. A Casa da Terela was the home of my paternal grandparents so a place I hold dear and I´m proud to be able to share it. What I like most about dedicating myself to this is meeting people from different countries and I enjoy helping them discover our culture, gastronomy and this wonderful village in which I live.
Ponte Sampaio takes its name from the bridge that connects it to the old province of Tuy by the parish of Arcade and where a battle was fought, the one known as the Battle of Pontesampaio. This battle was decisive in the Spanish War of Independence against the French on the 7th and 8th June 1809, which ended five months of French occupation. It is also known for the Muiñeira de Pontesampaio, which is supposed to have been touched during the battle that took place on the banks of the Verdugo River.
