This will help keep your rooms cool and dark*** Vestlax Mellangård is a family-run organic farm on the Kimito Islands in the Finnish archipelago. The house was originally built in the 1920s and renovated in 2015. We rent out our bedrooms on the second floor and offer a delicious breakfast served in the traditional dining room. On the farm, you can visit our cows and walk around the garden. Taking care of the environment is important to us. Our farm is organic and our animals are raised responsibly. The cows graze the fields from spring to fall and even have the opportunity to be outdoors during the colder months. Our solar panels typically provide the majority of our electricity during the summer months. The warm water for showers and cooking is heated by a wood-burning furnace on the farm and stored in a warm-water boiler to reduce energy waste. The breakfast we serve is mainly locally-produced. We source local berries and produce to serve to our guests and make our own freshly baked buns onsight every morning. Guests can note that the room named "double room with shared bathroom" has its own private bathroom with a shower that is located directly next to the room. This bathroom is not being used by other guests. The room named "suite" has a bathroom and shower with a door accessible from inside the room. It is possible to accommodate two extra guests for people staying in the "double room with shared bathroom". This option is available only through direct contact with us and there is an extra charge.
Kasper and Amy are your hosts at Vestlax Mellangård. They have been running this little summertime bed and breakfast since 2017. During the summer of 2023, they will be hosting the bed and breakfast themselves. Kasper is the farmer. He grew up on Vestlax Mellangård and is the 10th generation from the same lineage to have taken over the farm. Kasper is happy to talk about sustainable farming, farming politics, food, hunting, and the local culture. Kasper is bilingual Swedish-Finnish speaking. Amy is from Canada and has lived in Finland for 13 years and is also a happy Finnish citizen. She speaks Swedish fluently (the majority language in this region) and understands basic Finnish. You will delight Amy if you speak Finnish to her even though she will most often answer in English. For people who don't understand English or if Amy is feeling especially brave, she will even speak some Finnish words the best that she can. Amy is a psychologist for 11 months of the year but prefers to spend the summer holiday welcoming guests, baking bread, picking berries, and swimming with the kids.
The neighborhood is rural. We are surrounded by fields, forests, farm-animals and a beautiful garden. The sea is about 1km away. The surrounding area is perfect for walks and bike rides.
