December 2004, Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, and our first visit to La Mouille. An amazing thing happened. The sun was shining and everywhere was green - and then a snowflake landed on the tip of my son's nose. Then 2, 3, 4 - in two hours, the scene was transformed - a blanket of snow covered the fields and forest. Magic! Since that day, we've not been able to stay away from this place, whatever the season. Saint-Jean-de-Sixt is a busy working village. The pharmacy and the lovely shopkeepers are there all year, even in low season. The ski slopes of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand are just five minutes away by car. La Mouille itself is peaceful, but there's plenty to do: you can go sledging in the fields; take the footpath opposite the chalet and walk or snowshoe to Danay, or just spend a quiet evening in front of the fire, admiring the magnificent view of the mountains and the valley. Bring friends & family for an unforgettable holiday in the Alps This fabulous spacious chalet in St-Jean-de-Sixt has just been renovated, and will make the perfect base for two or three families looking for a great base in the mountains. Sitting above the village, Chalet Flocon Magique has fabulous views on all sides, and is surrounded by fields where children can play safely. Halfway between the Lake Annecy ski resorts of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, you really couldn’t pick a better location for a great holiday. There’s plenty of room for up to 12 people (10 adults), and two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, making it suitable for those with limited mobility. Facilities, too, are second to none, with a fabulous spa room with a sauna and state-of-the-art 5.5m counter-current pool, which is powerful enough to give even the most serious athlete a challenging workout, while still allowing families to relax in the jacuzzi section.

These resorts are linked to Manigod by a regular ski bus and an Aravis ski pass covers all of them, giving you more than 200km of pistes to explore. There’s great terrain for cross-country skiers too. Non-skiers will find plenty to keep them occupied, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice skating rink and cinema, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and horse-drawn sleigh rides.Thrill-seekers should head for the Bun-J-Ride in St-Jean-de-Sixt!
