The hosts were beyond gracious and accommodating, they did everything they could to be helpful and make our stay pleasant. They took us to our room, explained all of the policies (not many) and made sure we could get settled and be comfortable. The facilities were immaculate, and they work hard to keep it that way. The breakfast was an incredible value and perfect for the two mornings we were there.

This place is peaceful and quiet- it looks just like the pictures! I loved the duvet and pillows- they were perfect for me. The breakfast is huge! It was more than I could eat, and Chef Christian made the best eggs I have ever had in my entire life. Much thanks to Genevieve for great conversation and multiple pots of tea she made for me to enjoy in my room on a cold rainy day. She also offered to give me a pair of her hiking shoes since there was unexpected snow on the mountain and I only had walking shoes. They are both unbelievably generous and kind. Christian also offered to pick me up at the train station, and gave me the number to call in case I had a disaster on Camino and needed him to come get me.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

The location couldn't be better, right in the center of town, but still pretty quiet. The friendliness of the staff is very nice as well. Very nice that the guy spoke English. There is waterboiler in the room, coffee and tea is supplied. Romantic atmosphere, if you like traditional French hotels, you are in the right spot.
VVF was nice. It had all the basics for a complete unit. We were able to cook our own meals, it had a good sized refrigerator and freezer. The pool was great on the hot days. It was only about a 10 minute walk downhill into the historic village. It is located right on the Camino Frances.
The host was amazing, kind and helpful and had everything you could need all set up. Lovely breakfast. Accommodations were so well thought out, a model for all other albergues. Individual plugs and lights, shelves and hooks. And just steps from the pilgrim office. Loved the patio!
Friendly management, bed comfortable, 15 beds in large room. Shower hot, we had dinner and enjoyed every morsel. Ordered a take away breakfast as we left early, was good. Having stayed in hostels all through the Camino our comparison is up there.
The lovely hosts, they welcome you and help you as they understand this is your first stay on the Camino and calm your anxieties about what to do
It’s in a great location and is clean and the snack bar is cheap compared to anywhere else
I like a lot of things about this hotel. It’s clean, it shower has hangers and places to set your shampoo and soap, there’s a meditation room, breakfast was great, and out host was very nice. easy to wash and hang clothes area.
Perfect location; quiet surroundings, but very near the center of St Jean Pied de Port. Very kind and welcoming owners who were always available to give information. Good breakfast.
Great location near Pilgrim Office, Outfitter store, and easy walk to restaurants. The owner, Marc was great! He only spoke French, so google translate came to the rescue.
