Overall, the region was beautiful and there are many lovely towns to visit and much history in the area. Sarlat has a recently updated town square that is quite beautiful. Getting around the town itself is typical of a small French town. Walking is best! I was underwhelmed with the restaurants and the shops. Some areas of the town feel rundown.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

It’s such a beautiful city and it has wonderful things to explore within the walls. The whole region around Sarlat is beautiful. Sarlat is the perfect place to rest after a long day exploring other small towns or caves in this gorgeous region. We could have spent two weeks here easily. Take full advantage of the markets on Wednesday and Saturday in Sarlat to get amazing food, and of course, eat at a restaurant and enjoy some amazing wine.NicoleUnited States of America - 8.0Scored 8.0

Many places to dine, seemingly pretty much the same menus everywhere except in a couple of higher end restaurants. It is hilly. Politeness and a smile opens many doors, I don't speak French well, but was very pleased at how friendly and polite the people were. I mean all the people not just the ones that are getting some financial benefit from you. Basically, be nice, don't be an ass, and you won't get treated like one. Take a moment to look at how many men these small towns lost during WWI, must have been devistating.

The best thing of Sarlat is the location: It's easy and fast to make day trips to the multiple interesting location in the area. Food offering is quite unified between the restaurants, it gets a bit boring after a while. Having said that there are few really good restaurants but it takes effort to find them.j-manGermany

It is conveniently located on the main town square. Restaurants and shops are available in areas immediately surrounding the apartment. Christine was an excellent hostess and always available to accommodate us. We really enjoyed our stay in Sarlat and would return again to stay in this accommodation. The apartment provided an excellent “home base” for us to explore the nearby Dordogne area.

For a holiday where we didn’t intend staying in to eat, it was perfect. The location was excellent, a five minute stroll down hill took us to the heart of Sarlat-La-Canéda with its multitude of places to eat and things to see. Yet the view from the apartment was largely trees and greenery and it was generally so peaceful that you wouldn’t know that you were in the city.

One thing we didn’t realize is that there was no elevator. Pierre helped with the luggage so that was nice. The room was small but comfortable. Wifi was good. We didn’t have breakfast here. So, it was pretty much a short stay but a nice one. If you want to be in the middle of an old town action then the hotel is perfect.
