Groucho Marx once famously said: "I had a wonderful time but this wasn't it". How right he was. Initially, we were given a room with very poor lighting and to the hotel’s credit we were moved to a much brighter room. However, things went downhill from there. For example, I asked reception for an ice bucket to be sent to our room and was told that would be sorted. They forgot, so I had to go down to the bar to collect one. Then I went down to the spa for a swim and asked for a dressing gown but was told that they were only available for spa clients. I had to traipse back to my room again for a gown. Later that day, our child became unwell and I asked reception if we could have our dinner (part of the stay package) in our room. I was told there was no room service, so I was forced to cancel dinner in advance and drive five miles to get a carry-out. When I brought the remnants of the meal in a bag to reception for disposal, they would not take it. I was told to go to the restaurant and deliver it there.  When I did so, the person handling seating arrangements hesitated but eventually agreed to take it to the kitchen. When I cancelled our dinner, I asked if the receptionist could amend our bill accordingly, and she said it would be sorted. I have emailed the manager and owner several times for a response but there is a wall of silence.   This was my fifth or sixth stay at the hotel over the last decade or so, and by far the least satisfying. I appreciate things have been tough in the wake of Brexit and the pandemic, but I still feel the hotel fell far short of my expectations.

If you want to stay in the Castle you have to make that...

If you want to stay in the Castle you have to make that clear, there is also Airth Castle hotel which is not the castle. We were upgraded which was exactly what we wanted, stayed in Airth Castle! All staff were super friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was great too. We didn't use the spa facilities unfortunately but will do next time. See you soon. Thankyou. Sorry didn't visit Airth so can't really comment.

We stayed in the castle, in room 20.

We stayed in the castle, in room 20. The room was large and comfortable. There was black mould in the shower that had been only partially cleaned, and the bathroom window was in need of paint. Both minor maintenance issues. The big issue was the front entrance door. We had a fire alarm in the night and had to leave the building, but the door sticks and could only be opened by throwing a shoulder into it, something not possible for elderly or children. Again, easily fixed but it appears to have been tolerated for a long time.
