The Mews Hotel, hotel in Batley

Dating to the 1740s, The Mews Hotel is set in a charming courtyard in Ossett, between Wakefield and Dewsbury. It offers real ales in the cozy bar and a restaurant serving classic British cuisine.

The room was lovely, small but had everything I needed. Was looking forward to my "full English" so was a little disappointed when I was offered a sandwich instead (I am not a morning bread person) and the breakfast service felt a little rushed. The evening staff were so polite, a credit to the hotel.

Batley is the nightlife centre of West Yorkshire.

Batley is the nightlife centre of West Yorkshire. Although the world famous Frontier Club is sadly no more there are plenty of places on the strip to visit. Yes it is cheesy but sometimes cheese is a good thing, particularly on chips. And for those wanting a bit of retail therapy there are some great home furnishing shops including the Red Brick Mill which is, apparently, one of the best home stores outside London including Heal’s, Made.com, BoConcept, Hülsta, Natuzzi, Calligaris and Sofas & Stuff.

I was born in Batley and spent many a year roaming over the area which had beautiful fields and was a kids paradise but it has changed from what it was to what it is now. It is now built up a great deal and the old markets have gone a lot of places have closed now for the sake of modernization

Typical West Yorkshire town with better facilities than I remember. Cheap fuel; lots of inexpensive, good quality food and drink. Wilton Park with childrens playground, lake with ducks and nice gardens. No parking cost. I recommend the Liversedge Hotel in Heckmondwike for good beer, very good Pub Food at reasonable prices and you'll be stuffed when you leave! Excellent Fish & chips everywhere.

Since my last visit before lockdown the hotel seems to have improved. At first I was a little apprehensive of returning but the room that I stayed in last time has been redecorated and modernised .I was given a better standard of room than requested which was very pleasing .The staff on the reception was also polite and courteous even though I checked in at nearly midnight and was exhausted and crabby with myself . Breakfast the following morning gave me a good start to the day . I will definitely come back again .

Convenient location for Batley, I knew the area well has I had lived in the area for twenty years and I returned to attend the funeral of my younger brother. The staff were friendly and pleasant and the room in general was OK but lacked attention to detail i.e. dusty ledges, no toilet brush provided,

Leaving the “hotel” at our own expense to stay somewhere that was inhabitable. Booking.com was also incredibly helpful in facilitating a refund.
