The Abbey Hotel & Apartments, hotel in Bury Saint Edmunds

The Abbey Hotel & Apartments is consisted of of a Tudor house built around 1530 and a medieval merchant’s house built around 1350.

After a bit of meandering (on foot) to find the place, I was pleasantly surprised. It is an old building (Tudor?) but the room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the cotton linens soft, there were even robe and slippers in the room. The breakfast was good, the lady who greeted me and served breakfast was friendly and welcoming. Overall it was a great one night stay.

Very historical town, beautiful Abbey gardens, small museum. Nice shops, cobbled streets. Lots of other pretty towns and villages around, eg Lavenham. Country houses eg Ickworth, Thetford Forest to wander in. The area oozes with history

Bury St Edmunds is a beautiful Town with plenty of lovely places to visit. It has a very unspoilt, almost old fashioned feel to it. There are plenty of great Independent shops and also larger more recognisable high street chains. The Abbey Gardens are beautiful especially in the Summer time. You are spoilt for choice with the selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs to eat in. The Apex is a fantastic venue to watch a show in or just wander in and have a coffee.

Bury St Edmunds is a wonderfully historic English town with a slower pace than Cambridge. It’s definitely a really nice change from busy London. I would stay in Bury St Edmunds over Cambridge. Just take the train to Cambridge for a day and then come back to the calm of Bury St. Edmunds to enjoy your precious time minus the tourists.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage.

Bury St Edmund’s is a very English town full of heritage. The Abbey Gardens and ruins are beautiful and well maintained. The town is full of small gourmet restaurants and quaint cafes. Giggling Squid restaurant is amazing! There are plenty of shops for buying gifts and a regular market on Wednesdays. You do not need a car to get around this town.

Bury St Edmunds is a lovely place to visit and the Abbey Gardens are lovely to walk round. We were seeing relatives, The Bushal was in an ideal place near the town. We went by train so no car and The Bushal was good for that. A good place to visit, and historical.

Bury St Edmunds is lovely, pretty Abbey Gardens and a mix of shops. We stayed at The Westgate Pub. £110 for 1 night. It was old, tatty with peeling paintwork, and a very suspect looking kettle. The owner was pleasant, but the rooms need a clean and updating. We will return to the town but choose accommodation better. Shame.

I stay here maybe 2 or 3 times a year for work. The night manager is excellent, particularly as I often arrive very late at night. Room is of good size, bed is really comfortable, shower always hot. Breakfast is excellent. The building work has been going on for a long time BUT the hotel is really quiet and the work doesn't affect your stay at all; this time I was in one of the recently updated rooms - nice job :-)

The location is ideal for anyone wanting to stay centrally - the town centre is such a short walk away. Kitchen is fully kitted out and Angie was very thoughtful adding tea/coffee and other bits to the cupboards. The main bedroom has the most comfortable bed - I really didn’t want to leave. And everything smelt freshly cleaned and washed. I will be coming back.

The ambiance is great for a town centre pub offering accommodation bearing in mind the expected issues such as the lack of a private car park and the difficulties arising out of the joint use i.e. as a pub, a restaurant and a small hotel.
