Nice room, comfortable although small. Nicely decorated. Very handy being on ground floor, so no carrying luggage upstairs. Lovely dining room. Beautiful large sitting room upstairs.Friendly couple running the guest house. Very enjoyable stay. Location beautiful, almost in Moffat centre but in quiet location. Easy access by car to hills for walking nearby.

Breakfast was delicious and fully catered for my husbands gluten free needs right down to supplying little treats for him to have with the tea or coffee in our room. Lovely lounge to relax in when you were in the guest house which certainly beats sitting in your room. Tea making facilities in there too. All in all a great place to relax and stay.

Buchan Guest House is the only house in the street with ornamental iron railings and canopy. These are specified by the Earl of Annandale in the deed of sale for the land in 1864 when he set conditions for the style of house to be built. They help make the house very distinctive even to this day. And opposite the house are the tennis courts and bowling green, leading to one of Moffat's public parks and the river Annan. The rooms have all been modernised by us and each winter we refresh part of the property. There are no parking restrictions outside and we have enough space behind to give every room a private parking space.

Moffat is ideal for people travelling on the M74 and needing an overnight break. Only one mile from junction 15 so you dont waste time off the motorway searching for what you need. You benefit from a choice of places to stay, about 12 hotels/restaurants serving excellent meals plus independent coffee shops and two petrol stations for that refuel. All this set in a beautiful small town with two significant parks, boating pond, river walks, golf, tennis and bowls. For those spending a few days here thereare trips out to the waterfall at Grey Mares Tail or beyond to St Mary's Loch. Why not do the round trip past Meggat Water and Tall with a return down the Devil's Beef Tub. Glasgow and Edinburgh are easy day trips too.
