Host very pleasant, bed comfy. Did have kitchen setup with a microwave refrigerator stove oven kettle and tea and coffee supplies. Location very close to beautiful rocks and beaches where locals do wild swimming in the cold Waters. Close to several nice restaurants and stores to buy groceries if needed. It's about 15 minutes outside of Bushmills but that means you don't pay higher prices for places to stay even though Portsteward is a holiday town in itself.

I had a private room with ensuite - the room and bathroom were great. The shower was a little unusual, but once I got it going, it was perfect - a nice comfortable hot shower with no leakage out onto the floor. The location is nice - right on the coast: step outside onto the sidewalk, cross the street and there's the Atlantic! Rick was also friendly and knowledgeable and generally a pleasure to talk to.

    In the hostel we have to be aware that some guests might have an allergy or a phobia to dogs or other animals. Also in a small hostel a dog barking at night would be quite disturbing so unfortunately we have had to take a decision not to allow pets.

  • Hi. Just wondering would I still be able to check in if I’m 17. Would love to stay here!

    At 17 you can join the army, vote in some elections in Scotland and Wales, drive a car so I don't see a problem in you staying in the hostel. However for the foreseeable future due to Covid I have no dorm rooms, just private and family rooms.

  • Is it quiet at night?

    Yes, the hostel has a clear policy that all guests should be considerate of others and this includes a policy of minimum noise after 11.00pm The hostel is in a quiet street beside the sea so usually the only noise at night is the sound of the waves!

  • can you have a room for only two people or do you have to have aroome with 4 bunks and a double bed

    We have a variety of rooms that range from a room with just one double bed to a room with a double bed and 5 singles. Most of the beds are bunk beds and all the rooms are now en-suite, Rick

    All the rooms are en-suite and all bed linen is provided. I have a room with 4 single beds (two sets of bunks or one with a double bed and a set of bunk beds. Rick
