Chestnut Tree Cottage dates back to late 16th/ early 17th century. It is situated in the heart of the village of Ardingly and is one of the oldest cottages and oozes character, is very picturesque, charming and rocks its distinct architectural style. Over the years, the property has been an ironmongers, an antique shop and a tea room. It is now a large family home spread over 4 floors and hosts an abundance of original oak beams, original wooden flooring, two working fireplaces and an elderly work horse of an Aga. From the outside, it gives the impression its a quaint little cottage but inside it is a tardist full of character, quirkiness and style. There is a small, walled garden with a newly decked area where you can enjoy a glass of wine around a 6 seated table, a fire pit, an outdoors futon to lounge on or a Fat Boy bean bag should the evenings be warm and long during your stay. The garden boarders provide privacy and are planted with mature shrubs and plants with many pots around the decking, creating a wonderful area to relax in. Ardingly village has many amenities including two pub within half a mile, the closest being opposite the cottage, The Ardingly Inn, the second in proximity is The Gardeners Arms, a short walk towards the show ground. there is also a wonderful bakery right on our doorstep, Fellows bakers which sells wonderful produce made on site ranging from artisan breads, cakes, hot pies and much more. Just up the High Street is a very convenient shop, Ardingly News Shop, which sells pretty much all your essential groceries, newspapers, beverages, wine, toiletries etc. There is also a bespoke women and mens clothes shop called Dandelion and a scuba dive shop.
Charming, original, quaint, picturesque, genuine, character filled, oozes charm, quintessentially English, cosy, wood burners, home made brownies, friendly elderly dogs who love people and cuddles, much loved and restored family home filled with love who love to share all that they love. I have lived in this property for 25 years which I moved into with two very young daughters, at the time. I was a senior Intensive Care Neonatal Sister fro 24 years and then a childminder for 15 years during which time I had three more children. As my children were growing up and leaving the nest, I now have rooms vacant and decided to let rooms, which I absolutely love doing. Im meeting so many new people and am really enjoying this journey and new chapter.
Ardingly village is situated in the heart of Sussex, perhaps best know for the South of England Showground, Wakehurst (the rural arm of Kew Gardens) and its large reservoir. The village dates back many hundred of years with a rich pasture and many reasons to visit. Nearby is the Bluebell Rail Way which is a must for steam train fanatics, only about 6 minutes drive away. We are surrounded by National Trust garden, namely Wakehurst Place, Standen, Nymans, Sheffield Park and Ouse valley viaduct.
