Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for university colleges dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.
Cambridge punting is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!
Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.
Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.
Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodation choices on Booking.com.
We enjoyed walking around the colleges. The market was fun.
We enjoyed walking around the colleges. The market was fun. The botanical garden is lovely. We had many options of halal restaurants for dinner - not the case in every town/city.
Unfortunately, as it was not term time, evensong in King's Chapel was not on. I wanted my partner to hear it as it is so beautiful.

Cambridge is a beautiful and interesting city, but I was sorry that my visit wasn't in term time. Then it would have been really buzzing, and I would have been able to experience evensong at King's College chapel.

It's a lovely town with a lively centre, and lovely old buildings. The river is charming, and it's very relaxed. People can go punting on the river, or eat / drink in one of the pubs and restaurants that look onto it. All the high street shops are here, and there's a market in the central square. Prices are high enough here, as it's constantly busy, so you don't really get last minute bargains. Therefore, book early!

Cambridge is a very pretty place with lots of charm & historical interest. We filled each day just discovering its magic! We watched the heron just standing in a stream. We saw huge swathes of blue windflowers near to The Backs. Delightful!

What a beautiful city!
What a beautiful city! Lots of lovely walks, beautiful architecture, friendly people, delicious coffee (tried Hot Numbers and Bould Brothers) and vegan food spots (Chai Walla is fully vegan and Venezuelan stall at the market had delicious option), shopping, good transport links. Would also highly recommend punting, you won't regret it, especially if you are lucky to get good guide who tells most interesting facts of colleges and bridges. I booked directly online with Rutherford's Punting, that's probably cheaper than buying in person.
Our superior room was beautifully decorated and had some little extra touches that made it quite special. For example, the lovely proper teapot and cups and saucers ... very welcoming after a day out walking around Cambridge. Also the accent vases and cushions, etc. .... it felt like we were staying in a fine home rather than a hotel with items secured to tables and walls. The weekend breakfast buffet was one of the best we have ever had, while the regular breakfast table service on the Monday was also very excellent.
A great 3 day break. Staff excellent (special mention to Phoebe ... first class) and hotel really clean. Great location. Easy access to Cambridge city centre ... either pleasant walk by the river or 5 minute train ride from Cambridge North. Seen other reviews mention issues with parking ... there are no issues. Car park is easy to find and right by the hotel ... I could see the car from the hotel room! Would definitely stay at Novotel again and consider taking bikes ... Cambridge set up for family cycling.
This is an old inn used for travelers since the 1600’s. It is beautifully restored and our room certainly met our expectations. The staff was pleasant and helpful.
We enjoyed the full English breakfast, which cost an additional £15 each. Lots of meat!!!
Plenty of parking and well lit.
The church next door was a fun treat, which we visited the morning we left. John took us through the church and proudly told us about it. What a great start on the day.
We stsyed here while visiting nearby Cambridge.
We have stayed at the Hilton Cambridge a couple of times before (with other family members as well) and every time the place was spotless. The room and the bathroom are cleaned to excellent standards and the bed is so comfortable. In our opinion, this is the best hotel in Cambridge. In terms of location, it can't be more central. The staff at the restaurant/bar/breakfast are super friendly and one of them even remembered our allergy request from last time.
Well placed for visiting Cambridge, with easy access to local Park and Ride 5 minutes drive away at Milton, for going into City Centre. Hotel and room clean and comfortable, food was good and excellent room service. The bathroom had a powerful shower. Lovely swimming pool. Easy parking. Good for solo traveller as felt safe and 24 hour reception available. I really enjoyed my stay, which was a much needed break for a worn out NHS worker!
The hotel is perfectly situated, very easy to walk to/from the train station, and to/from the center of Cambridge. The property is very clean, the staff is really nice and friendly, helpful, perfect! The rooms are clean, well decorated. Very good value for money. The breakfast is nice, quick and easy.
Hotel was great but location was a nightmare in terms of accessing Cambridge. Next time I'd pay more and stay in city centre as traffic is so heavy. Was seriously late for business meeting. If you're not operating to a tight schedule the Ramada is a great value for money. Bed is super comfy.
Absolutely gorgeous, high-end hotel with all the amenities located on a beautiful park and walkable to everything Cambridge has to offer. Friendly staff and a beautiful restaurant. Exquisitely decorated. They even had a pillow menu so you could select your ideal type of pillow! Loved our stay.
Everything! The hotel is a bit outside of the centre but it is easily reachable by walking, by bus or by taxi. There is a big supermarket and bars next door. The rooms are large and functional. The personnel is very kind. Incredible value for money compared to Cambridge city centre!
Great overnight accommodation on our trip around UK, where we wanted to explore Cambridge. the food (dinner and breakfast) were great, and a lovely young manager. Nice pub environment and juxtaposition of rooms to the actual pub was great. On site parking very handy too.
The Sorrento Hotel was in an excellent location for a conference I attended in Cambridge. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The restaurant has an excellent menu, with a selection of fresh made, delicious, Italian pizza-over-baked pizzas. A great stay!
The hotel was very conveniently placed for our visit to Cambridge, the Breakfast was ideal for our needs, and we found the room comfortable and well supplied. For accommodation near both the train station and the city centre we found it to be very peaceful and quiet.
Arundel House Hotel was great value for money. The staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating, especially as one member of my group was travelling with a newborn. The location was also great - a short walk across the green to Cambridge city centre.
The room was spacious, clean in and comfortable, the staff were very helpful, professional and friendly. Breakfast was the best cooked breakfast I've had in a hotel for a long long time, well thought out with good variety for all.
Great suite with plenty of space for a family. Kitchen was well equipped. Bathroom was top. Bus to the city centre of Cambridge stops right next to the hotel. Sainsbury next door.
convenient location, close to everything. big room, big bathroom, big comfy bed, great super friendly staff. the hotel is a beautiful property, inside out, nice design.
