We liked being so close to the water and having the convenience of a bar and restaurant in our hotel. In the morning, we enjoyed watching people kayak and swim along the shore, and then walked up the steep hill to eat breakfast in another inn just for something different. Upon checkout, a kind hotel employee drove his Range Rover up the steep hill in front of us. That helped to relieve all the stress of driving our underpowered stick-shift rental car up the steep narrow drive while imagining another car coming down the hill towards us. Once we were on our way, we drove to nearby Hartland Point and after walking around the shops and restaurants where we purchased a wonderful book called The Salt Path: A Memoir by local author Raynor Winn (highly recommend it), we spent several hours hiking the gorgeous SW Coast Path. That was one of our best experiences.

Hartland is a lovely little village with some local stores and amenities, although bigger shops need a visit to Bideford. It's a great location to explore the countryside and the North Devon coastal path.

A good base to do coastal walks to Clovelly and Hartland Quay. The village itself has pubs for dining, cafe, restaurant and fish and chip shop. Two convenience stores one with Post Office. Hartland Abbey and gardens about a 20 minute walk away using public footpath.
Short drives to Bude, Bideford and Barnstaple.
A good place for stargazing! I actually saw comets during my stay!

Hartland Quay Hotel is wonderful.
Hartland Quay Hotel is wonderful. Donal and Sarah are exceptional host and their team of staff are also first class. My room was bright and had a great view. Breakfast was well cooked with a good selection from the cold buffet. I chose to eat my evening meal in the bar. Food was freshly cooked to order and very tasty. Good selection of drinks are also on offer.. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and intend to go back later in the year. Hartland is a hidden treasure.

The location is fantastic both for hiking and also doing some esay-going exercising like going for runs along the beautiful coast. The view is stunning, the hotel a great place to stay and the hosts there wonderful people to meet.
Friendly and helpful owners who live next door- felt homely with ducks in the garden. Very quiet- it is on village street but set well back and high up. Village is pretty with 3 pubs offering food and 2 shops.
Bed was good and firm, and for once the lighting was good, easy to read in bed. Kitchen well resourced with all the essentials.Spotlessly clean. Nice little patio to cool off in. 1 hr free parking available right outside, and a free long stay car park 5 mins away. Perfect location for Hartland Quay and coastal path.
After a long period not visiting places due to Covid, it's easy to forget how exceptional B&B places are here in Devon. But even for Devon standards, the service at Philham House was just spectacular. Plenty of space, the most comfortable bed in a long time, peace and quiet, and an exquisite, friendly and fun service - without being intrusive in any way. Close to amazing beaches (especially Welcombe Mouth) and wonderful eateries.
I will be back for sure. Strongly recommended.
Ideal for a quiet and relaxing getaway! some great walks on the coastline about a 10min drive away and only about 25 min to Bude. The hut is very well built clean and tidy and the wood burner heated it up lovely! The shower got nice and hot too! Probably shouldn't say this as I would quite like to go back but its incredibly good value for money compared to what else is on offer in Devon! Perfect for people that prefer to be away from people and relax with a beer by the fire pit
Nice, quite cottage, overlooking the Devon Hartland peninsula country side with a glimpse of the sea . Two nice, large double bedrooms (ensuite), large lounge/dining room, well equipped kitchen. Nice terrace to sit in. Owners very helpful and friendly also providing useful advice on places to visit in the area . Pet friendly - my dog was most welcome and well catered for! Freshly baked bread, milk, sugar tea and coffee waiting for us on arrival .
Comfortable bed, thoroughly cleaned space and linens/towels/utensils. Very warm and welcoming!
There were provisions to make coffee/tea, some biscuits and Rosie was very kind enough to provide some scones, cream and jam which tasted so good.
Rosie also made some recommendations about good restaurants near by and we found it helpful. Also about the Hartland Quay site- thoroughly enjoyed our visit to there!
The location was great with an enclosed terrace which was great for our small dog and would be really handy with small children. The cottage was extremely clean and had everything we could have needed including a great dog pack, fluffy towelling robes, very well equipped kitchen and a hose sprayer for the dog. We had a great time locally visiting Hartland and surrounding villages including Clovelly.
A lovely warm welcome by Rosie, and she had put milk and a cream tea in the fridge for our arrival which was lovely. The property was clean and everything we needed was catered for. The beds were very comfortable. Hartland is so quaint and beautiful and Hartland Abbey is amazing and just down the road. such a great property, great value for money and perfect for a stay in Hartland, thanks Rosie.
John and Val are very warm and welcoming hosts, it is at it states "home from home". Our room was lovely, with a very comfortable bed and excellent shower, the breakfast menu covers all tastes and needs and i can highly recommended the full English it certainly sets you up for the day. It is the perfect location to explore a very pretty village, we will definitely be going back.
I enjoyed staying in Joseph the coach, great idea, quirky and not as hard as traditional glamping.
Nicely laid out inside, everything you need. Couple size only. Good view over grounds. We'll placed to travel in North Devon or into Cornwall.
Proprietors were friendly and helpful which counts for a lot in my book.
Alpacas and two donkeys roaming around which was nice to see.
Really fresh breakfast with tasty bacon and plenty of tea and toast. Friendly staff. Fabulous location. We have visited Hartland for many many years and always promised ourselves that one day we’d stay at the Hotel and it didn’t disappoint. Great cliff walks.
The room was very updated with a comfortable bed. The hotels room were in a different part than the pub so it was quiet. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating and the food in the pub is nice. The area around the hotel has spectacular scenery.
All went very well. Hotel Team reacted to my wife's Vegan and GF dietary needs perfectly.
Room larger than expected, and comfy bed. All facilities you expect in a good hotel were there. Ample parking, and great attached bar and drinks selection
Property and staff were great. Friendly and welcoming. Comfy beds and great room. Lovely little village and bonus with the quay so close by. Not the first visit to the Anchor and won’t be the last.
Right by the sea and surf. Magical! Love the small hotel and lovely managers. Nice to have the Wreckers Restaurant at hand. Such a romantic site and they even have excellent wifi-fi!
From our point of view, we would normally stay somewhere within walking distance of a pub for meals but in winter this was not possible. However, in the summer it would be easy.
