This 16th-century coaching inn has played host to both Dickens and Darwin. With beautiful, Elizabethan decor, The Lion is set within the heart of historic Shrewsbury.

The Lion is a Grade I-listed building, and guests can relax by the Tudor fireplace. The Pickwick Papers were written by Charles Dickens at the hotel itself, and it has also been visited by the 19th-century Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, as well as the legendary violinist, Paganini.

Rooms offer unique furnishings with renovated decor and original features. Private bathrooms are included in each room, along with a TV and tea/coffee facilities.

The many historic streets and shops of central Shrewsbury can be reached within 5 minutes on foot. Pride Hill and Darwin shopping centers are both less than 10 minutes’ walk away, and Shrewsbury Rail Station is a 15-minute walk from The Lion.

    We do have parking on-site, it is located at the rear of the hotel. The car park is operated on a 'first come, first served' basis. There is a charge of £5.00 per day which is payable at reception on arrival

  • Are we able to book rooms at your hotel from the 12th April. So that I can visit a friend that lives in Welshpool?

    Hi Unfortunately, as this is classed as a leisure break, we would not be able to accept you booking until at least the 17th May, when the restrictions are relaxed further.

    Hi Yes we do have parking on site and it is limited, dependant on what time of the year you were planning on visiting the hotel, it can be easier than others. The nearest public car park is the NCP, which is less than 500 yards away.

  • Would you have private parking for 2 motorcycles if we stayed with you? (level/firm ground and not suffering from vandalism). In the pictures the street in front of the hotel looks pretty steep.
