An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

The coastal area is nice to walk along. The Mary Rose & Victory Museum are very good.
Portsmouth city centre is dull, lacking greenery or planters, many shops are empty. It is not an attractive city centre!
There is a statue of Charles Dickens in the Guildsquare otherwise the area is grim.

The attraction was the harbour.
The attraction was the harbour. The ticket was expensive but well worth it. The Mary Rose Museum was phenomenally good - exciting, imaginitive and caught the attention of grandparents, parents and children alike. The Victory was almost equally good and the guides there were exceptional. We also visited the Warrior where the guide took over explaining to the children, told us an immense amount but also had us all in fits of laughter. Strongly recommended for all ages
We also very much enjoyed Portchester castle and the exhibition on the prison there (and the cafe in the church.

I come to Portsmouth regularly, a very clean city and friendly people, full of history especially naval, lots to do and see, lovely pubs and restaurants, Southsea is a must, good bus service plenty of good hotels, I'd recommend the Spice Island in old Portsmouth and the Ship Anson in The Hard Old Portsmouth is worth visiting
A large hotel and restaurant situated in a great location - particularly handy if you are catching a ferry from Portsmouth. The room was warm, quiet, and clean with TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There is a cheap but decent restaurant attached, and the full English breakfast was excellent. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and there were CCTV cameras watching over the large attached car park.
The equidistance of the Old Portsmouth/Gunwharf Quays and Southsea seaside neighborhoods location of this Holiday Inn is probably its strongest point.Within a 10-15' walking radius, you've got all the action and sightseeings!
You can tell that you are in a global. leading Hotel chain, most of the facilities and comfort are there and ticking most boxes.Very clean room and good value for money.
The room, family size, was spacious, comfortable with a truly wonderful view and a very large window. It made staying in the room feel like a treat.
The restaurant was exceptionally good. There are many options for food in the vicinity, but the best we found was the hotel itself. The Captain's Table is a good one indeed. Nice room too.
The hotel is convenient for Old Portsmouth and not far from Gunwharf Quays, in a fairly quiet area despite its High Street address. There are local options for breakfast and other meals while the attached pub is being renovated. Our room was small but adequate for a short stay, and staff on duty at reception are helpful.
The location is fantastic. Free Parking right next to Gunwharf Quays was a real bonus. Beds very comfy, rooms spacious and nice to have a bath aswell as a shower. Very well located next to the Portsmouth Harbour Train Station which was easy to attend Football match at Fratton Park £1.65 return
On a freezing winter night and day, this hotel provided a warm welcome. Toasty warm room, hot shower, comfy bed and hot buffet breakfast the next day. Perfect for a quick trip down to attend a conference. Quick walk to the Guildhall and nearby docks.
Were upgraded on arrival to a superior room to what we paid, the room had a great view of harbour and the breakfast was excellent. The staff on duty were friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel is ideal for gunwharf quays historic dockyard.
The hotel is centrally located for the various naval attractions in Portsmouth and the shops, restaurants and bars in the Gunwharf Quays complex.
Our room was comfortable, clean and light.
The breakfasts were good with plenty of choice.
Lovely hotel. Room was very nice and clean.
The location is a bit far from Portsmouth city centre, however the hotel is more than worth it. We had complimentary parking and we were able to charge our electroc vehicle free of charge.
The breakfast was well enjoyed especially surprised there was a cooked selection.
Good location nice walk to seafront approx 1/2 hour and trains into city centre and portsmouth harbour very convenient from fratton Station
The hotel is in a good location for Southsea and Portsmouth. You can walk to most places or there are local buses close by. Breakfast is good and very well organised. The children really enjoyed the swimming pool.
The location of this hotel is excellent within Gunwharf Quay and less than 5 mins walk from Portsmouth Harbour station and ferry. Breakfast was nice and the room comfortable for a short stay.
Comfortable bed and design typical of Ibis hotels which represent good value for money. Reasonably priced on site car parking for city centre location with bar and restaurant facilities.
