The Sail Loft, hotel in Southwold

Located in Southwold, a 7-minute walk from Southwold Pier Beach, The Sail Loft provides accommodations with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

We knew there was no restaurant or bar on the premises due to flooding last year but the room was very well decorated and clean, spacious and well equipped. Shower room was very good too. Tom phoned me soon after booking to ensure we were fully aware of the restaurant closure which showed good service. I inadvertently left a bag behind when checking out and I rang Tom a few hours later when we realised what had happened. Tom said he would check it out and rang me back soon afterwards to confirm the bag had been found and has offered to retain it until I next visit Suffolk in a few weeks time. The Sail Loft is not in the centre of the village but it only takes 10-15 minutes to walk in, which we did both evenings we stayed. The location was very good for walks to Walberswick, around Southwold fens and along the coast

    A real seaside gem.

A real seaside gem. Plenty of pubs (but they do get busy in the season) shops and a long beach with a pier. The afternoon tea at the Swan I would declare the best I've ever had. The adnams brewery and distillary tours are worth doing if of interest. A place of charm, pleasent walks, slowly drunk coffees and letting the world slow down a bit.

We were out of season and some cafes closed at 3pm which we weren’t expecting but several restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town centre. The pier arcade was open and you could have a tour of the lighthouse plus the brewery. We walked to Walberswick (no ferry available until April) and some nice cafes there too! Lovely sandy beach and lots of nice fish dishes to eat along with many different Adnams beverages!

It was a great place to visit.

It was a great place to visit. Southwold in it self is quite small. There were a number of different jobs and local landmarks to visit which we enjoyed. Car parking prices were reasonable. Despite some places were closed, we still made the most of it and enjoyed our visit. There were definitely sufficient food places to choose from which were quite happy with. The shops were varied between local shops and bigger branded shops. The landmarks we visited were good too. You could probably see most of Southwold within a day. If everything was open and it was in the summer time, you would probably need more than a day to visit every inch of Southwold.

Never stayed in the Blyth Hotel before so was pleased to find it was dog friendly. The breakfast was good, the fish pie was lovely and it felt very relaxed and informal. Room felt uncluttered but warm and cosy, We usually stay in The Swan but they don't take dogs. Also the reception staff were unhelpful when trying to book afternoon tea for one of our days, saying the kitchen would be closed. Walking past the kitchen looked pretty much open judging by the number of people that were in there. Make your own conclusions on that one but I doubt they will have much of our custom in the future. Also try the Sole Bay Inn, dog friendly and good beer and food - you can't book in advance for grub. Bear in mind this is Feb so the Pier was completely closed until the season opens.

Southwold is lovely and picturesque, atmosphere is like going back in time. All the shops and staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We stayed and ate in the crown, highly recommended. We also ate at Coasters which again was perfect and highly recommended. You can walk around Southwold, no need for transport. Lovely, welcoming town with plenty to do in the winter months. The beach walk we took was peaceful and relaxing. We felt completely relaxed and rejuvenated upon our return home. Advice is to book your evening meals before you arrive, we witnessed many people not being able to book tables obviously because everyone wants to eat in the lovely hotels and restaurants, there is also a lovely fish and chip shop who cook to order should you not be able to book a table so no one goes hungry. Lunchtime is an ideal time to visit the many bakers to have a cuppa and lovely fresh snacks. The Sailors library is a must visit

The location was ideal with just a 25 minute walk into Southwold. A very quiet area. The newly finished patio area is excellent. Overall decoration and presentation of Hotel was also excellent. Friendly staff. Breakfasts were brilliant and the two evening meals we had were lovely. Local buses to nearby towns within easy walking distance. We were in a Fire Exit room and we initially had a problem opening the Fire Exit door but this was soon sorted out by the staff.

The upstairs flat is perfect for a person travelling on their own: it is compact but wonderfully furnished, plenty enough for one but doesn't feel cramped or small. Kitchen is well equipped, bedroom is lovely. The flat is lovely and light and does not feel claustrophobic. It is located right in the centre of Southwold, above a shop but there's no disturbances from this, and with the flat at the back of the building, there's no street noise either.

staff were friendly and helpful breakfast was excellent room was bright and airey. Unlike most hotels who use saving the planet and sustainability as an excuse save money by not servicing room the staff here asked if we wanted room serviced. Good old fashioned service with a smile. Tip try and park undercover as the seagulls are lethal . Well done the Crown👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 mist definitely our place to stay whenever we visit southwold or close by.

The staff was excellent and welcoming; the room clean, pleasant and the bed comfortable and spacious. Access to town was an easy walk with a shorter walk to the pier and then down the beachfront to the dunes. Southwold is a nice little town with good eateries. We enjoyed the visit. We left some tablets behind at the hotel and they called as soon as they found them, so we were able to get back rapidly.

The staff were very friendly and great fun to talk to. The building itself and the rooms were very nice and were as you would expect for a building of that age and the bar/food area were very up to date as well. Of course it's never going to be a Hilton hotel, but it sure has character and is perfect for Southwold, myself, my partner and our Jack Russell will be back for sure.

Everything….the cleanliness, location, food were great! Also nice and quiet. However, I didn’t realize we were getting the small room, my reservation led me to believe we had the garden room. But as I mentioned, the more important aspects of the room/hotel were great!

We had a garden room as we took our 2 dogs. The Hotel doesn`t allow dogs but they do give you breakfast in the garden room free of charge.A butler brings the breakfast on a huge tray with white linen - very special.
