Rye is built on a hill so naturally has steep paths and many steps. However the local council try their best to discourage more elderly visitors by having closed most public toilets and arranging car parking so that visitors staying overnight have to be up early in the morning to get to the car parks at the bottom of the hill by 8.00am or risk a substantial fine. In view of this we would avoid staying overnight in the town in future

We go to Rye a couple of times a year, we either stay at the Mermaid Inn, if they have an offer on. Or The Kings Head. We really like the Kings Head as it is really good value for money & staff are always most polite & friendly. We particularly like Rye for its Character & charm. It is always bustling.
A place for a perfect little break.

A charming town with a bustling vibe, full of independent shops. The restaurants are many and varied. There was plenty to do, even in January, though some attractions, such as the visitor centre was closed (tho online it said it was open). The church and castle are lovely. The church tower has spectacular views all round. Loved it, even in the snow! We were surprised to find a 3 screen cinema, showing films throughout the day and evening - a delight in the bitter cold.

Rye is an old town, beautiful buildings, easy to walk around, lots to see. There's good coffee shops and cafes plus upper end eateries so all budgets and palates are catered for. Great beer in the local pubs too.
Wonderfully attentive staff, luxury hotel level breakfast. Our room (we switched as we needed a twin room and this was done super swiftly and politely) was very spacious, clean with brand new bathroom and furnishings. Great selection of teas and coffees in the room. Very comfortable beds. Magnolia House is a very short walk into town and very convenient, and offers free parking- which was a big bonus for us. Exquisite breakfast. Lovely manager/owner. Great choice for Rye. We only stayed for one night but would stay longer next time.
Absolutely phenomenal location, room and cleanliness. The decor was gorgeous. Check in and Check out are very easy. Lovely and comfortable rooms and beds. The breakfast is any dish from their brunch menu, it was absolutely delicious, I was really fond of it. The room are spacious, the showers are clean. Everyone is really nice and accommodating.
Fantastic coffee for your breakfast, to me it meant a lot to have good quality coffee. Would absolutely stay here again if visiting Rye. Great location, 5 min from train station.
Lovely friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Room was clean and comfortable. Spa facilities were good and much enjoyed. Evening meal was delicious and breakfast offered us lots of choice and was also delicious. Great location for Rye. Nice gardens and lots of parking. Not expensive either - top location all round! Best thing of all - has to be the super staff who made it a joy to stay with them at this hotel.
Large clean flat conveniently located on the high street. Nicely renovated, comfortable, and accommodating all in a wonderful location. Full kitchen facilities, lounge area, and separate bedroom. There was even an iMac to use, which was convenient and not something that was expected. I would love to stay here again upon my next visit to Rye.
Warm, friendly, clean and comfortable.
Food- breakfast lovely varied menu. Bakery for sit in or take out option very good.
Food -Excellent.

Room was very quiet
Good breakfast and pleasant staff in morning
Absolutely loved our room - especially the bathtub and interior design. Quite similar to an Artists Residence Hotel. The hotel is in a fantastic location - Rye is a small place but this hotel is right in the middle of it all. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly.
The Hope Anchor is a well run, comfortable hotel, nicely located in Rye.
Parking isn’t always easy, but so far it has worked.
Customer service is very good.
Also, the bar is very good, having an excellent pint of Harvey’s, in great condition. Big attraction!
The location was perfect for walking into Rye. The hotel room was a good size with comfortable bed. The tv was a bit on the small side but not a major issue. The staff were all lovely and helpful and we will certainly stay there again.
Beautiful property in central location to all of the amenities in Rye and walkable (via scenic path) to the beach & dunes at Camber Sands. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious and our host Brenda was so friendly and accommodating.
Our boutique room was spacious and well presented with good facilities including a coffee machine that was spot on.
The hotel is a lovely old converted building in the heart of Rye with a great Bistro downstairs.
The amazing history of the hotel and how enthusiastic the staff was to share it with us. The manager Elizabeth was did absolutely all she could to make our visit as enjoyable as possible. She was a delight!
Wonderfully clean! Really lovely staff and sizeable rooms. LOVED the 12pm check out, more hotels need to do this. They allowed us to use the spa for the whole day, and food was fantastic.
The attic room / bed was comfortable with a great view. The hotel was very well situated. Most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. The town of Rye has a lot to offer.
We had a lovely room and en suite bathroom, a panoramic view and the hotel was in an excellent position within yards of the town centre . Breakfast was very good.
Incredible breakfast and lovely staff. Perfectly situated hotel where you can easily park, walk, and enjoy all that Rye has to offer. Highly recommend!
