Interesting decor, and beautifully clean throughout. There was attention to detail with all aspects, from the breakfasts to the individually styled rooms. The proprietor clearly cared about maintaining high standards and was very helpful, friendly, and thorough in all she did. The breakfasts were well presented, varied, and very good quality. I tried the full english and also the Continental. All the staff were helpful and friendly. It was a relaxing stay, quiet overnight in that locality, but close to all Whitby has to offer.

I am Deborah, and I’m the proud proprietor of Norman Guest House, my husband and I met in 1985 and we were married in St Mary's Church on the cliff. We are a family run business and all of our team are dedicated to our guests having a warm friendly experience when they visit. I am lucky enough to have spent most of my childhood in the local villages of Grosmont, Glaisdale and Staithes, with my family. My husband’s family has lived in Whitby for centuries and we are both passionate about the area’s history. We are happy to share all we know about Whitby’s past and present to help you have the best possible visit Norman Guest House is located on the West Cliff, in the heart of historic Whitby. There’s more to our small fishing town, situated on the edge of the wild North Yorkshire Moors than meets the eye. Hidden in our Victorian cobbled streets and alleys, which climb from our picturesque harbour to the medieval Abbey, are stories of Captain Cook’s voyages, whaling fleets, St Hilda chasing snakes from our cliffs, and of course Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula. My team and I are waiting at the Norman Guest House to offer you a warm welcome and help you to explore our entire town.
Only a few minutes’ stroll to the Cliff, you will find yourself at the famous Whale Bone Arch and Captain Cook Monument, which offers a vista across the harbour to the Old Light House, and Whitby’s East and West Piers. As you look to the East Cliff you will see Whitby Abbey and Saint Mary's Church standing proud. You could also take a walk down the Khyber Pass to enjoy the three miles of beautiful sand separating Whitby from Sandsend. Whitby is known for its superb Yorkshire produce and live entertainment, if you’d like to take in Whitby’s bustling town centre our famous swing bridge is only five minutes’ walk from our Guest House, where you will find jet workshops, , art galleries, independent shops, fish and chips, fine restaurants, wine bars, and of course our fantastic old taverns. Situated near the market place you can enjoy’ Tate Hill Sands’, which is home to Whitby Life Boat and Whitby Rowing Clubs, the sands are where Dracula famously landed on British shores. Walk on and you will be able to smell Whitby’s Famous Kipper House leading you to climb the 199 steps to St Mary's Church and the iconic Abbey itself.
