Great location and such a nice place to stay. The suite we had was perfect and the whole hotel had a nice ambience to it. Dinner was slightly disappointing in as much as it was no better than average pub food. The price reflects this but I was hoping for more of a fine dining experience in such an otherwise wonderful hotel.
United KingdomEverything was spot on food. Services. Bar staff. Restaurant manager and the other staff. Would highly recommend.
United KingdomAll other processes were Covid19 compliant. Staff their usual friendly professional selves.
United KingdomFood fantastic Dinning facilities lovely Felt at home
United KingdomThe location was amazing - so peaceful! We loved the spa, and the quality of the accommodation was excellent- high end toiletries, robes and magazines! We had dinner in the restaurant and couldn't fault a thing (and breakfast was also delicious and such high quality!).
United KingdomNice breakfast, lovely hotel, pool, spa treatment. Only downside bed wasn't that comfy.
United KingdomThe room was lovely, the bar staff (James and Carl) made our stay a lot better than it would have been, as they were very friendly had a laugh with us and we're very very helpful. If it wasn't for them I would definatly have rated it a bit lower.
United KingdomThe exceptionally comfortable bed and pillows! I slept like a baby. The whole spot is idyllic and we’ll certainly be back.
United KingdomDuring our stay the staff were exceptional. Flawless service from start to finish. The food was a very pleasant surprise exceeding all expectations (the scallops being a particular highlight). Can’t fault this hotel or set up! Very well run!
United KingdomThe breakfast was good but I would have liked more choice of fresh fruit. The porridge was excellent as was the cooked breakfast. The salmon and scrambled eggs were also excellent. The staff were very polite and efficient. Car parking was also plentiful and proximate to the hotel. The lounge where the fire was situated was very comfortable with a nice ambience.

Headlam Hall was purchased by John & Ann Robinson in 1977 as it was an opportunity to expand their neighbouring farm. At this time the Hall was more of a liability than an asset and was in a poor state of repair with a leaking roof and an overgrown garden that yielded 57 bales of hay on its first cut! It soon became apparent that the Hall needed an income to help with the costs of maintenance and up keep so work began to make the main ground floor rooms and a handful of bedrooms suitable for letting to private parties. In the early days it was very much a low key concern with Ann Robinson doing the cooking for the occasional dinner party and guests often being left to 'fend for themselves' with an honesty bar in the corner of the main lounge. Customers consisted of shoot parties, some local companies including DSRM and Rothmans and occasional visiting families from the USA. We did have the privilege of accommodating some interest guests during this period including Count Cinzano, Count Zanon (an influential figure in Formula 1 in the 70's and 80's), Senator Flowers and the then President of France!
Barnard Castle Barnard Castle town (9 miles): great for speciality shopping, especially antiques, with many antique shops found on 'The Bank'. Other attractions include the Castle itself, managed by English Heritage, and walks along the river. Don't forget to pop into Barnard Castle TIC (Tourist Information) on Flatts Road, where you can get lots more information on attractions and events in the area during your stay. Bowes Museum The Bowes Museum (9 miles): just on the edge of Barnard Castle, this amazing 19th century 'French Chateau' houses the greatest private collection of fine and decorative arts in the north of England. This includes a new Silver & Metals Gallery, and the famous 'Silver Swan' automation. It has frequently changing exhibitions, arts events and also seasonal markets in its grounds. Teesdale Teesdale: A lovely North Pennines Dale (we would say that, it's home to Headlam Hall!), Teesdale also boasts the meandering upper reaches of the River Tees, and numerous characterful villages such as Middleton-in-Teesdale, Cotherstone (home to the popular Cotherstone cheese) and Romaldkirk.
